A position exists, for a Research Assistant/Research Associate in the Department of Engineering, to work on Low Income Tropical Housing.
The post holder will be located in Cambridge, UK / Case study locations (Tanzania / Uganda / China / Thailand) as required
The role will involve contribution to the wider research grant on Low Income Tropical Housing which is funded by EPSRC/DFID/DECC. This research programme is intended to identify, and then begin to propagate, methods of reducing the energy consumption of low-income housing in tropical countries. Starting with recent European experience, tropical vernacular architecture and building physics, many designs will be assessed. Short-listed ones will be analysed in greater detail and a few selected for more detailed testing and dissemination/demonstration.
The role holder will be a member of an international research team, and will carry out research that will provide substantial scope for academic judgement, originality, interpretation and presentation of results. The role holder will assist with grant administration and the writing of reports for funding bodies. Contribution to teaching will include assistance in the presentation of seminars and may include participation in the research group's teaching programme.
The essential skills, qualifications and experience required to perform the role include:
Holds a relevant qualification to Masters level; possess some research experience with sufficient breadth/depth of specialist knowledge in the discipline and of research methods and techniques to work within established research programmes; demonstrable ability to continually update knowledge in the specialist area and engage in continuous professional development; experience of managing own workload; experience of working on an inter-disciplinary team; desirable knowledge, skills and experience required for the role; has obtained or is close to obtaining a PhD in a relevant specialist subject; experience of working in case study countries or similar locations.

Salary scales: £24,289-£27,318 or £28,132-£36,661
Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 12 months in the first instance.
