Position summary:
The Climate Action Network – International (CAN) is seeking a Global Campaign Coordinator to establish and develop CAN’s Campaign Coordination Department. The Campaign Coordination Department aims at coordinating members work around key campaign opportunities that would ensure the shift to a low-carbon and climate resilient development at the national and regional level, by closely cooperating with CAN’s national and regional nodes (networks). The Campaign Coordinator will take the overall responsibility for developing, coordinating, and monitoring a joint campaign coordination strategy; leading and working closely with CAN’s national/regional node coordinators and members working on national/regional level. The Coordinator will report directly to the CAN International Director. Physical location for this position is flexible although ideally it would be from within the offices of an existing CAN member group or regional office.

Specifically, the Global Campaign Coordinator will:
- Develop and implement the network’s strategy and plans around coordinating members work around key campaign opportunities on the national and regional level;
- Creatively enhance the influence of CAN through strategic planning, identifying key campaign opportunities, key campaign moments and any relevant issues in which CAN is best placed to impact the shift into a low-carbon and climate resilient development;
- Work with CAN node coordinators to enhance collaboration and joint strategic campaign development;
- Establish regular reporting and inter-group communication on campaign relevant issues;
- Identify key methods for coordinating the Network’s inputs identified key campaign opportunities;
- Identify areas where CAN needs additional analytical capacity in relation to low-carbon and climate resilient development;
- Lead CAN’s campaign coordination groups, and ensuring follow up activities are completed as necessary;
- Plan workshops, conference calls, and other means for effective and intensive collaboration around key campaigns;
- Reach out to and engage/collaborate with other stakeholders working on low-carbon and climate resilient development;
- Support fundraising efforts by the CAN Director as they relate to Campaign Coordination efforts; and
- Support the CAN Secretariat in general preparations whenever required, especially the Node Development Manager to ensure stronger national and regional networks able to implement campaign strategies.
Specific Qualifications:
- Graduate-level university degree in relevant field (social, economic, environment);
- Suburb facilitation and coordination experience;
- At least 5-years’ experience working in a relevant field, preferably including at an NGO working on climate issues;
- Suburb experience in advocacy and building/implementing advocacy campaign strategies;
- Experience working in developing countries, with a keen understanding of the challenges in communication, resource restraints, and other unique circumstances;
- Experience working in a network or collaboration of NGOs;
- Previous exposure to and understanding of the issues surrounding equity, development, and climate change;
- Previous knowledge of key climate change campaign approaches and solutions;
- Ability and experience working in a remote office;
- Organizational skills and willingness to work under time restraints and pressure;
- English language required, additional UN language skills preferred;
- Previous experience with CAN preferred;
- Experience with low-carbon development campaigning preferred;
- Ability to travel on demand (and up to 50% of time) is required;
- Experience using online organizing tools.
