The Programme
BBC Media Action is launching an exciting new radio programme – Niambie – that will provide a platform for young Tanzanians to examine the burning questions and challenges facing the youth today. Through a creative, energetic, youth-led radio programme, to be supported by dedicated web- and social-media platforms, Niambie will actively engage young Tanzanians in conversation, encouraging them to participate in shaping the content and direction of the programme.
The Niambie brand will inspire and promote active citizenship amongst young Tanzanians. With an over-arching focus on encouraging young people to question their role in civic affairs and the wider national agenda, Niambie will enhance dialogue between the youth and leaders whilst examining the opportunities for young Tanzanians to engage in community life and influence change in wider society.

BBC Media Action is seeking an experienced radio producer to lead the production of Niambie, a new, dynamic youth-focused radio programme in Tanzania. Funded by the Swiss Development Cooperation (SDC), and working in partnership with national media houses, Niambie will be characterised by exceptional production quality and editorial standards.
Main Duties
Main Duties
• Manage a dedicated team of highly-skilled and dynamic production professionals to deliver Niambie – a high-quality, influential and creative radio programme
• Liaise closely with BBC Media Action colleagues from the Projects Team and Research & Learning Team to ensure that Niambie goals and objectives are achieved
• Foster positive working relationships with elected and appointed leaders and officials in order to encourage wide-interaction with Niambie and ensure the long-term independence of the programme
• Oversee the web- and social-media platform content
• Lead the creative process to shape and define the format for the Niambie
• Ensure Niambie meets the editorial standards of the BBC
• Deliver timely Niambie episodes that meet the agreed wider project-objectives
• Develop relationships and liaise with national broadcaster(s) airing the Niambie radio programme
• Lead on long-term programme planning and strategy for Niambie
• Prepare scripts and oversee presentation of Niambie
• Provide inspiring leadership and management to the Niambie production team
• Oversee content development in the regions (where relevant/necessary)
• Lead the Niambie team to produce Niambie special-episodes outside of Dar es Salaam
Experience
Experience
Required:
• 3+ years’ experience working as a radio producer
• 2+ years’ experience managing a team of radio production professionals
Desirable:
• 5+ years’ experience working in the media sector in Tanzania
• Experience working with an international organisation
• Experience working with a charity or NGO
• Experience working with local-radio partners (content providers)
Skills
Required:
• Must be fluent in both written and spoken Kiswahili and English (non-negotiable)
• Capacity to make balanced and objective judgements based on a thorough understanding of editorial guidelines, target audience and departmental objectives
• Excellent understanding of studio and broadcast technology
• Exceptional inter-personal and communication skills
Desirable:
• Knowledge of BBC Editorial Guidelines (Radio).
• Demonstrable interest in youth- and governance-issues in Tanzania
• Creative genius with the ability to inspire, motivate and manage the Niambie production team
• Ability to prepare detailed written reports and actionable planning documents
Other
• Willing to travel within Tanzania occasionally as required by Niambie production schedule and priorities
