AWF is currently seeking a talented individual to coordinate the development and implementation of CARPE III’s communications program and press relations. Reporting to the Congo Landscape Director, the Communications Officer will improve internal and external communications of the project with collaborating partners in the Landscape.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop comprehensive outreach plans for the project activities
- Working within the established mechanisms within AWF outreach to the media and web content development
- Facilitate communication across various components of the CARPE III program
- Develop processes and disseminate CARPE III program bulletins and other program promotional materials
- Serve as liaison with the press responsible for organizing and coordinating press coverage, press briefings, interviews with CARPE III staff, press releases, and press supplements
- Provide backup support in consultation with both private and public sector entities to plan and implement activities, working towards the strengthening of tourism associations and advocacy groups
- Liaise with relevant community stakeholders, local leaders, other project partners and the tourism private sector to coordinate efforts on strategic matters that affect the sector
Qualifications
- Bachelors’ degree required in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism or relevant field
- 3+ years in similar roles
- Demonstrated experience working with media houses in the Democratic Republic of Congo
- Demonstrated experience working with multiple partners
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Willingness to travel to remote areas of Democractic Republic of Congo
- Strong interest in and understanding of conservation
- Outstanding interpersonal skills
- Fluency in English is an advantage
- Demonstrable commitment to AWF mission and understanding of issues faced by AWF in delivering its mission
