GROUP COMMERCIAL MANAGER
African Barrick Gold (ABG) is looking to employ an experienced Group Commercial Manager to be based at our office in Dar es Salaam. The Group Commercial Manager will oversee the purchasing, supply and contracting functions for African Barrick Gold. The primary purpose of the function is to ensure that:
• The supply and contracting functions operate in compliance with Company policies and procedures; and that
• Goods and services procured satisfy the operational requirements, at the lowest total cost of ownership, and that contractual arrangements are both effective and appropriate.
KEY RESULT AREAS/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Safety • Visibly supports and drives ABG Safety Policies and Standards
• Visibly integrates safe work practices into Commercial Functional activities
2. Contracts Management • Develops and implements a standardised contracts management process and system for ABG
• Standardised templates that meet all legal and company requirements
• Standardised process for managing the initiation, contracts negotiation and practical contracts management with clear accountabilities of each stakeholder
• Auditing contracts management compliance
• Performance monitoring of contractor against the contract
• Development of contracts management expertise across the operations and within the Commercial Department
3. Sourcing • Develop local sourcing strategy to enhance sourcing in the countries we operate in
• Identification of local supply chain development opportunities
• Develop cost effective international sourcing strategies
4. Logistics & Inventory • Develop optimal and most cost effective logistics chains for the safe and expedient delivery of goods to the end user
• Develop an optimal inventory system which will minimise the amount of working Capital
• Develop and implement a standard for inventory cataloguing and classification
5. Security and controls • Develop a set of standards and processes for the Commercial function to ensure an internationally acceptable control environment is maintained
• Conduct regular risk assessments across all areas under the commercial departments responsibility to identify and address any potential high risk security risk issues
6. Stakeholder relationships • Develop and maintain stakeholder engagement plan
• Key stakeholders: Local and international suppliers, contractors, site operational staff, local government agencies
7. Continuous improvement • Embed a culture of continuous improvement in the department
• Constantly look at ways of improving the commercial departments service delivery
• Keep up to date with best practice in the commercial function space
8. Talent Management • Develop a strongly talented commercial department by ensuring the best people are attracted, developed and retained, with a strong focus on developing the local capability in the countries we operate
• Develop a succession pool for the Commercial Department
9. Managerial Leadership • Embed the ABG managerial leadership practices and values in the Commercial department
PROFESSIONAL SKILLS
Education Requirements:
• Relevant Degree preferably in Finance, Supply Chain, Materials Management or Commercial related
• Leadership qualification/training
Experience Requirements:
• Minimum of 15 years experience within the resources and/or heavy industry/manufacturing sector
• Practical hands on contracts management experience is essential
• High integrity, creative leader with practical hands on commercial experience
• Solid experience operating in complex environments
• International/global experience is preferred
• Previous experience in multi cultural developing country environment .
