Oxfam works with others to end poverty, injustice, and gender inequality which are still key problems in Southern Africa region. At Oxfam, we’re determined to make positive changes across the region, through a long-term programme that extends beyond emergency relief to ongoing development, lobbying and advocacy at a national, regional and global level. And in this key role, you’ll make sure we’re working to the same high standards in everything we do.
About the role In simple terms, you’ll provide the essential MEAL expertise that will help determine the quality and impact of our programmes in Southern Africa, inform the decisions we make around resource allocation and boost shared learning opportunities between our various programmes in the region. As well as providing direct leadership with regard to all monitoring, evaluation and learning activities, this will involve working closely with Country Directors and programme managers across the region to help them understand the importance of developing rigorous programme plans and giving colleagues at every level the support they need to bring those plans to life.
About you Coming to us from a similar role with another NGO, you’ll have a good understanding of the principles around developing and delivering humanitarian, development and advocacy and campaigns programmes, and of the tools, methodologies and information systems used to measure their effectiveness. An in-depth knowledge of southern Africa and the humanitarian and development issues facing people in the region is obviously essential. From a practical standpoint, you must also be prepared for fairly extensive travel. But perhaps most important will be your own determination to end poverty and injustice, your passion for life and absolute conviction that everyone in the world should be treated equally.
About Oxfam A simple, inescapable truth underlines everything we do at Oxfam. There’s enough wealth in this world to go around. It’s not unfortunate that people live in poverty. It’s unjustifiable. It’s not just their problem. It’s ours too. And with the right support, we can beat poverty and injustice. More than 8,000 people already commit their time and talents to our campaigning, humanitarian and long-term development projects. Now we’re looking for yours.
