Traidcraft fights poverty through trade. A Christian response to poverty, we are best known as the UK’s leading fair trade organisation and are engaged in a wide range of trade and development activities.
Our East Africa programme works primarily in Kenya and Tanzania. It seeks to enable poor producers to grow their businesses, find markets and engage effectively and equitably in trade. Working mainly with small holder farmers, our work is focussed on key themes important in the East African context; this includes the tea, honey and horticulture sectors as well as work in semi arid areas. The scale of our work in the region has grown in recent years and we are aiming to maintain that growth.
This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in the International Development Department, shape the work of our charity and make a major difference to our work in the East Africa region. The primary focus of the role is tolead the East Africa team, developing strategy and driving this forward with a wide range of partners, collaborators and donors in line with the Traidcraft strategy. As part of this you will seek to develop an effective strategic partnership with an appropriate organisation, as a means of scaling up the scope and impact of Traidcraft’s work in the Region.
We are seeking a dynamic and creative individual with outstanding interpersonal and communication skills. The ideal candidate will have a track record of success as a manager and leader, with experience in the development sector and strong hands-on experience of current approaches and best practice concerned with linking farmers to markets. You will be entrepreneurial and resourceful with excellent project design and management skills. Above all, you will want to use your skills to make a difference to the lives of the poor in East Africa.
This job will be offered initially as a 1 year fixed term contract post
