NATIONAL EXPERT FOR REDD+ AND AGRICULTURE (RE-ADVERTISED)
The UN-REDD National Programme in Tanzania supports the National REDD+ Task Force (NRTF) with the further development and implementation of the National REDD+ Strategy and Action Plan and in that context wants to recruit a "National Expert for REDD+ and Agriculture".
Agricultural expansion is a main driver of deforestation and forest degradation in Tanzania. The National REDD+ Strategy and Action Plan identifies a range of issues in the agricultural sector that need to be addressed in order to reduce deforestation and forest degradation and develop systems and policies that allow for mutually supportive forest and agricultural land uses. It is expected that REDD+ will provide an opportunity and funds to develop wider sustainable land use plans and investment portfolios in Tanzania.

The use of biomass for energy generation (charcoal, firewood and bio-fuels) is a main driver of deforestation and forest degradation in Tanzania. The National REDD+ Strategy and Action Plan identifies a range of issues in the energy sector that need to be addressed in order to reduce deforestation and forest degradation and develop systems and policies that allow for sustainable use of biomass for energy generation without destroying valuable forests. REDD+ will provide an opportunity and funds to facilitate integrated sectoral planning that allows for improved energy supplies and forest management in Tanzania.
