This position will be located in any one of the ChildFund offices in East and Southern Africa [Ethiopia, Uganda, Kenya, Mozambique, Zambia].
SUMMARY:
Coordinate/Facilitate proposal development and grants acquisition by building profile, pre-positioning National and Regional Offices and strengthening NO proposal grants acquisition capacity in country offices, as assigned. The focus of the position is supporting NOs’ acquisition of high value grants from US government, other bilaterals, multilaterals and the private sector.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Cultivates strong connections linkages or relationship between national offices, USG agencies and other major bilateral/multilateral and private sector donors. Keep organization informed of new funding opportunities and the Strategic Objectives of donor missions in country. Promote the formation of consortia with strategic partners and ensure alignment of the Program Pipeline and readiness activities with them.
Provides strategic leadership for intelligence gathering and pre-positioning efforts. Researches and analyzes funding trends among key donors/clients. Undertakes business intelligence research to inform strategic planning. Regularly update and communicate to NOs on USG and other bilateral/multilateral and private sector donor priorities and direction. .
Strengthens Regional and NO grant-acquisition capacity including developing of training materials and carrying out regular training of NO staff to understand grant acquisition and management strategies and comply with donor standards.
Provides strategic leadership for the region in identifying and analyzing donor calls for funding applications, expressions of interest and request for proposals from the public and private sector. Support national offices in assessing opportunities
Leads the development of cost and technical proposals. As proposal manager, supports the writing/development of concept papers and proposals to respond to specific solicited and unsolicited funding opportunities of high value grants for the assigned countries. Monitor proposal quality. Follow up submissions of proposals with effective liaison with donors, as permitted, and ensure that donor questions and concerns are fully addressed on time.
Coordinates with assigned Region to increase the competitive readiness of National Offices, writing capacity statements and supporting pre-positioning efforts set by the Global Grants Team
Builds and maintains positive working relationships with all Regions of Childfund and participates as a team member in the development of proposals in other regions as agreed by the Regional Office and global grants team.
Contributes to the design of business development processes, tools and templates for ChildFund and support their use by proposal development teams /National Office Grants Acquisition teams .

Proficiency in relevant computer applications (spreadsheets, database, accounting operations software, project management software, presentation software)
Ability to handle and prioritize multiple tasks and work autonomously under pressure of deadline required
Writing and oral fluency in English required; principal regional language [Portuguese] preferred
Experience Required
Thorough understanding and proven track record of obtaining large US government and other major donor awards
Prior experience working in the development sector
Demonstrated experience in training, coaching and/or mentoring project staff in the basics of proposal development
Demonstrated diplomacy in building relationships, working collaboratively within a growing organization, and within broader external coalitions
5-7 years experience in writing grant proposal and obtaining grants from US government and other bilateral/multilateral donors. Experience with private sector donors is an added advantage
Bachelor’s degree in International Development or a field related to the organization’s core program, or equivalent relevant work experience
Required travel within Africa and internationally
