Description
North Mara in Tanzania is currently searching for a suitably qualified Plant Engineer. This position will report to the
Plant Manager, working an 6/3 weeks roster.
Responsibilities:
o Responsible for meeting all production targets with particular emphasis on availability of equipment and budget, whilst maintaining a high level of security.
o Plans, revises, co-ordinates and implements Maintenance Schedules
o Advises and directs maintenance staff in the organization and execution of maintenance schedules
o Co-coordinates overall daily activities of all sections reporting to him/her to ensure economic and efficient, overhauls in progress, housekeeping etc
o Investigates, and reports, on unscheduled shut-downs, down-times or other interruptions to the production process.
o Participates in the short, medium and long term planning with regard to plant/equipment, manpower, production and production personnel.
o Co-ordinates and monitors all preventive, scheduled and unscheduled maintenance and repair work with relevant maintenance sections, for continued operation.
o Co-ordinates supply deliveries from warehouse to ensure full availability of material to support planned maintenance activities.
o Co-ordinates and liaison with other operational and administrative functions including production planning, mine production, warehousing, procurement, transport, personnel, safety and training as well as local and overseas consultants and contractors
o Checks, approves and follow up, as per delegation, purchase requisitions for his/her division.
o Coordinates and approves, as per delegation, all maintenance personnel, action, including recruitment, promotions, upgrades, salary increases, special and annual leaves, terminations of contracts etc.
o Implements and monitors safety requirements throughout the department in close liaison with the Safety Department.
o Plans, schedule, implement and monitor adequate staff training programs in close liaison with the Safety & Training Department. As an expatriate position it will be required that the successful incumbent train the national workforce in order to improve their skills.
o Monitors Organizational performance within department and recommends changes to the HR department if necessary.
o Maintains good relation with and positive work atmosphere for all maintenance plant employees
o Prepares Capital and Operational budget for the Plant Engineering Department.
o Monitors budget against actual expenditure to ensure costs stay below or at budget levels;
o Holds monthly cost meetings with supervisors and accounting.
o Implement the companies’ Environmental program and maintains its requirements
o Appraise direct reports accordingly to the company’s policy
o Carries out other managerial tasks as assigned by superiors.
QUALIFICATION & EXPERIENCE
o Education: B.Sc Mech Engineering or Suitable Tertiary qualification certification
EXPERIENCE:
o Minimum 7 years experience in the Metallurgical Plant
o Minimum 3 years experience in a Managerial position
o Experience in Africa will be beneficial but not essential
o Project experience will be an advantage
o Multi-discipline experience is required – Mechanical, electrical and instrumentation
o Extensive Practical Experience in Maintenance Management
o Good Reporting, Presentation and Verbal Communication Skills
o Demonstrated skills with capital justification, budget development, expenditure and controls.
o Experience in systematic coaching and training of employees.
o Good written and verbal communication skills with ability to effectively communicate with the workforce.
o Strong Influencing skills.
