Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine -Clinical Research Programme (MLW)
Salary in the region of circa £80,000 plus relocation package
In order to achieve ambitious objectives, MLW is now seeking a dynamic individual for this new and essential role. The Chief Operating Officer (COO) will play a central role in strategic operational management of the MLW Programme. Providing strong operational leadership and robust financial management, the COO will drive significant improvements in organisational efficiency, ensuring scientific activity is matched by first-class operational support.
MLW is an internationally recognised health research centre focussed on addressing some of the biggest health challenges in Malawi and the wider region. Based at the University of Malawi College of Medicine and working in close partnership with the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine and the University of Liverpool, core funded by the Wellcome Trust, the Programme is dedicated to building local capacity and training the research leaders of the future.
In order to succeed within this role you will need to combine an impressive track record of effective operational leadership with a proven ability to manage complex, multi-disciplinary, multi-national teams. You must be able to demonstrate strong financial management skills and an understanding of the operational requirements for organisations with complex income structures.
Excellent communication skills along with diplomacy, influencing and negotiation skills to engage productively with stakeholders in Malawi are essential, and previous experience of working in Africa will be a significant advantage.
