Technical Program Manager, Fiber Development Google - Kampala
Google's projects, like our users, span the globe and require managers to keep the big picture in focus while being able to dive into the unique engineering challenges we face daily. As a Technical Program Manager at Google, you lead complex, multi-disciplinary engineering projects using your engineering expertise. You plan requirements with internal customers and usher projects through the entire project lifecycle. This includes managing project schedules, identifying risks and clearly communicating them to project stakeholders. You're equally at home explaining your team's analyses and recommendations to executives as you are discussing the technical trade-offs in product development with engineers.
Responsibilities
Manage the outside plant implementation of the fiber network for data backhaul services and oversee the implementation of network integration undertaken by equipment suppliers and contractors.
Coordinate and manage the communication between the internal teams, equipment suppliers and fiber contractors on any implementation related matters.
Support the Access Development General Manager and other colleagues with fiber civil works related support and operations.
Support the Access Development General Manager on management of all matters related to claims by third parties out of fiber related implementation works.
Work as a liaison between internal teams, fiber contractors, local authorities and all statutory and regulatory parties.
Minimum Qualifications
BS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related technical field (In lieu of degree, relevant skills or equivalent experience).
Project/Program Management experience, with a background in Network Engineering or Technical Consultancy.
Experience in managing fiber optic related civil works for outside plant.
Clean driving license with experience.
Preferred Qualifications
An analytical, data-driven approach toward solving complex challenges.
Excellent project management skills, with ability to track multiple simultaneous projects and deliverables.
Considerable technology-related project management experience, having worked in carrier relations/vendor management.
Strong partner management skills; ability to build and sustain effective relationships with key external counterparts.
Hands on experience of managing fiber optic based network projects, strong knowledge of telecommunications technologies including SDH, DWDM and IP, 2G/3G backhaul networks and knowledge of 2G/3G backhaul networks requirements.
In depth understanding of local population dynamics and relationships and how to manage those relationships to best serve the projects needs.
