Department
BBC Media Action is the independent international charity of the BBC which uses media to advance development worldwide. As part of one of the world’s leading media organisations, we are committed to improving the quality of people’s lives in developing and transitional countries through our innovative use of media. We do this through our focus on health, governance, livelihoods, climate change and humanitarian response. We work in partnerships that include governments, broadcasters, civil society institutions, donor agencies and international Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs). As Projects Assistant for our Africa Regional Programme based in London, you’ll work closely with London-based Project Managers and Assistant Project Managers to support the delivery of our projects.
Role
As Projects Assistant for our busy Africa Regional Programme, you’ll support our London team and nine BBC Media Action offices across Africa. Therefore, you’ll work with Project Managers and Assistant Project Managers in drafting project documentation, such as summaries, presentations, proposals, and donor reports. In addition, you’ll be a key contact for our country teams and international trainers, facilitating communications between them, London teams, the wider BBC and external stakeholders. Broadly speaking, you’ll ensure our London office systems for procurement, project management and business development operate smoothly, whilst identifying where these, or additional systems, can streamline project delivery. Importantly, you’ll also oversee our team travel and international trainer travel, managing complex itineraries and ensuring elements such as visas, health appointments and risk assessments are in place.
Requirements
You’ll bring evidence of supporting projects, coupled with excellent organisational and administrative skills showing an ability to work quickly and accurately under pressure. Supplementing this will be your good communication skills, showing an ability to deal confidently and effectively with staff and contacts at all levels, both in person and on the telephone. On this theme, you’ll also show experience of working as part of a team and dealing with a wide range of people including donors, financial managers and consultants. In addition to this, you’ll have a demonstrable interest in both Africa and how media can be used for development. This will all be underpinned by your ability to work independently and proactively.
