The African Union, established as a unique Pan African continental body, is charged with spearheading Africa’s rapid integration and sustainable development by promoting unity, solidarity, cohesion and cooperation among the peoples of Africa and African States as well as developing a New Partnership Worldwide. Its Headquarters is located in Addis Ababa, capital city of Ethiopia.
In seeking to achieve these objectives, the African Union intends to strengthen its capacity to deliver by, among others, the implementation of new organization structure and the filling of vacant posts.
The Commission of the African Union invites applicants who are citizens of Member States to apply for the post of Senior Human Resource Officer, Projects within the Human Resources Department in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

2. Major duties and responsibilities:
Within delegated authority and under the general guidance of the HOD HRM, the Senior Human Resources Officer will be responsible for the following:
• Responsible for the strategy which guides selection, recruitment and appointment of personnel
• Oversees preparation of job openings. Advises on the preparation of job description and terms of reference. Undertakes review of job openings, implements applicable HR assessments and reviews recommendations of successful candidates.
• Monitors the pace of recruitment in order to ensure timely fulfillment of targets.
• Actively participates in short-listing and interview processes and ensures compliance to set practices and guidelines.
• Develops reporting criteria, develops and delivers monthly status reports and statistics to leadership and unit.
• Oversees on-boarding of recruited personnel.
• Supervises and monitors the work of the Human Resources Assistants in his/her area in undertaking the full range of human resource management activities.
• Other duties as required.
4. Qualifications
University Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or business administration with a functional emphasis in Human Resources or Organization Development; Master’s Degree preferred ; Certification such as Professional in Human Resources (Senior or Global) an added advantage.
4. Work experience
A minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in human resources management, administration or related area. Knowledge in the administration of entitlements of staff members, at least three years of experience in areas such as recruitment and administration of entitlements are highly desirable.

7. Language requirement:
Proficiency in one of the African Union working languages (Arabic, English, French and Portuguese) is required. Knowledge of one or more of the other AU working languages would be an added advantage.
7. Age: Candidates must preferably be aged between 30 and 45 years.
8. Tenure of appointment: The appointment will be made on a fixed term contract for a period of three (3) years, of which the first twelve months will be considered as a probationary period. Thereafter, the contract will be for a period of two years renewable, subject to satisfactory performance.

Remuneration: Indicative basic salary of US$33,619.00 per annum plus other related entitlements e.g. Post adjustment (46% of basic salary), Housing allowance ($14, 414.40 per annum), education allowance (75% of tuition and other education related expenses for every eligible dependent up to a maximum of US$7,800.00 per child per annum), etc for internationally recruited staff of the Commission.
