Counterpart International is currently seeking a Civil Society Development and Youth Participation a Logistics & Operations Consultant to promote a viable and increasingly democratic Sudan. The work includes two primary components: (A) promoting and building a vibrant civil society sector through institutional capacity strengthening, networking and access to funding to help civil society organizations (CSOs) address citizen demand for good governance and democratic participation; and (B) providing support for youth-led initiatives and youth engagement in national dialogue for peace and reconciliation, and helping youth access and utilize information for the purpose of reconciliation dialogue, conflict prevention and democratic reform. Counterpart International and IREX will work in partnership with Sudanese civil society to help CSOs and citizens take part in developing local and national solutions to development and reform challenges and build bridges between stakeholders.

The consultant will work from residence and when applicable at Counterpart’s CSDY Nairobi office for the duration of the assignment. The consultant will provide logistical and administrative assistance to the CSDY Program Representative in Nairobi and to the CSDY HQ management team in the U.S. overseeing CSDY start-up. The consultant is an experienced professional whose knowledge and previous experience enable her/him to carry out the duties and responsibilities listed below in a professional and result oriented manner:
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: •Office space: search for and identify new office space for the CSDY project offices in Nairobi per requirements provided by CSDY HQ management team. •Housing: search for and identify expat staff housing in Nairobi according to specifications provided by CSDY HQ management team. •Procurement: identify and obtain quotations from vendors for office equipment, supplies and furniture, payroll system and services, sedan vehicle, vehicle maintenance, vehicle fuel/petrol, hotel accommodation and conference/meeting packages, taxi/car service, staff health insurance, life insurance (preferably a bundle of WEBA and life insurance), property insurance, communications services, travel agents etc. in accordance with Counterpart policies and compliance requirements. •Follow up on bank account opening as directed by CSDY HQ management team. •Research and apply for a Post Office box number for Counterpart. •NSSF and NHIF: identify application process and requirements, advise CSDY HQ team on requirements and follow through with registration as directed. •Coordinate logistics support for visiting HQ staff and consultants (identify accommodation, car/taxi service, mobile phone and internet modem services as needed etc.) •As directed by CSDY HQ team, research cost of advertising in the Daily Nation and coordinate posting of job announcements therein. •Provide support to the CSDY Program Representative, HQ staff and expat staff as requested to ensure smooth office set up. •All other duties assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS: •BA in international development, education and/or another relevant field. •Minimum of 3 years’ relevant work experience; experience in organizing training events preferred. •Experience in monitoring and evaluating training programs desirable.
•Demonstrated interpersonal skills, including diplomacy, tact, the ability to negotiate and influence, and cultural sensitivity. •Language (reading, writing, and speaking): English fluency required; knowledge of Arabic or a relevant local language is desirable. •Excellent communication skills, including writing, speaking and listening. •Ability to set priorities and to manage time effectively. •Accuracy and attention to detail. •Analytical and problem-solving ability. •Ability to work both independently and as an effective team member. •Computer skills, including experience using Microsoft Word and Excel. •Professionalism in appearance and demeanor. •Willingness to enhance knowledge through training and personal initiative. •Flexibility: ability to work under pressure and in a multi-cultural environment with respect
