Position Description:
Supervise the entire team of Physiotherapy Department and ensure that services offered
are according to the quality standards and goals.
Supervisory Function:
A. POSITION SUMMARY: Describe the primary purpose of this position and the major expected end result.
· Take a lead role in physiotherapy assessment, diagnosis and treatment of patients.
· To ensure that therapy team provides effective treatment by providing excellent
clinical and managerial leadership.
· Provide clinical care in the field of physiotherapy; encompassing physiotherapy
assessment, treatment and management of all members.
· Develop and implement service changes.
B. RESPONSIBILITIES & TASKS DESCRIPTION:
Clinical
§ Be responsible for patient assessment, development and implementation of individualised treatment plans that are patient centred and in line with best practice
§ Be responsible for goal setting in partnership with patient, family and other team members as appropriate
§ Be responsible for standards of practice of self and staff appointed to clinical / designated area(s)
§ Communicate and work in co-operation with other team members in providing an integrated quality service, taking the lead role as required
§ Develop effective communication with and provide instruction, guidance and support for staff, clients, family, carers etc.
§ Document patient records in accordance with professional standards and departmental policies
§ Provide a service in varied locations in line with local policy / guidelines and within appropriate time allocation (e.g. pre-admission assessments in hospitals or home visits)
§ Demonstrate flexibility and work across the various units as the need arises
§ Participate and be a lead as appropriate in review meetings, case conferences, ward rounds etc.
§ Develop and promote professional standards of practice
§ Work within own scope of professional competence in line with principles of best practice, professional conduct and clinical governance
§ Seek advice of relevant personnel when appropriate / as required
Administrative
§ Be responsible for the co-ordination and delivery of a quality service in line with best practice and in co-operation with the multi-disciplinary team
§ Oversee and monitor the standards of best practice within their Physiotherapy team
§ Contribute to the service planning process
§ Assist entity head in service development encompassing policy development and implementation
§ Review and evaluate the Physiotherapy service regularly, identifying changing needs and opportunities to improve services
§ Develop and promote quality standards of work and co-operate with quality assurance programmes
§ Collect and evaluate data about the service area as identified in service plans and demonstrate the achievement of the objectives of the service
§ Oversee the upkeep of accurate records in line with best practice
§ Collate and maintain accurate statistics and render reports as required
§ Represent the department at meetings and conferences as appropriate
§ Promote a culture that values diversity and respect in the workplace
§ Participate in the control and ordering of Physiotherapy stock and equipment in conjunction with the entity head / division head
§ Be accountable for the budget, where relevant
§ Engage in IT developments as they apply to patients and service administration
§ To make the most effective and efficient use of developments in information technology for the physiotherapist role, in a manner which integrates well with systems throughout the organisation.
§ Perform such other duties appropriate to the role as may be assigned by the Division head
Quality Safety & Risk
§ Develop and monitor implementation of agreed policies, procedures and safe professional practice by adhering to relevant legislation, regulations and standards
§ Ensure the safety of self and others, and the maintenance of safe environments and equipment used in Physiotherapy in accordance with legislation
§ Access and manage risk in their assigned area(s) of responsibility
§ Take the appropriate timely action to manage any incidents or near misses within their assigned area(s)
Application Instructions:
Qualifications & Experience
§ Post graduate qualifications in relevant clinical areas with minimum of three years satisfactory post qualification clinical experience
§ Demonstrate sufficient clinical knowledge and evidence based practice in the management of conditions common in the Care of the Older Person and Palliative Care populations
§ Demonstrate sufficient experience working in a multi-disciplinary team
Competencies
§ Demonstrate competent and confident IT skills - Word, Excel, Power Point and e-mail
§ Demonstrate clinical leadership skills
§ Demonstrate mentoring and supervision skills
§ Demonstrate excellent command of the Kiswahili, English language in order to effectively carry out the duties and responsibilities of the role
§ Demonstrate excellent listening and verbal communication skills.
§ Demonstrate flexibility with regards to work duties and work patterns
§ Demonstrate the ability to respond to changing circumstances
