To fulfill its mission in the Emergency Medicine Department (EMD) MNH has collaborated with the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare (MoHSW) and Abbott Fund Tanzania (AFT) and “to pilot a new framework for delivery of the highest standards of care to all patients in a sustainable way within the existing public health care setting in Tanzania”. The EMD is the leading institution for quality Medical and Nurse training, development and research service in Tanzania. Quality Assurance Officer -Emergency Medical Department (EMD)
MNH is leading the way nationally and regionally in emergency medical practice and training and intends to appoint a Quality Assurance Officer to take charge of quality assurance at the EMD. The role reports to the Head of Department - EMD and supervises Quality Assistants and Department Secretary and is responsible to implement the EMD Business Unit Monitoring and Evaluation strategy to assess progress of the unit towards performance and quality goals. The Quality Assurance Officer will implement hospital policies formulated by Muhimbili National Hospital through EMD and ensure high standards of patient quality healthcare delivery, staff welfare and training, and ensuring the good reputation of the EMD in co-operation with the management.
Roles and responsibilities
- Collaborate in the design of the monitoring and evaluation strategy of the EMD;
- Design and develop audit check list for inspection and compliance monitoring;
- Collect and report on data pertinent to patient care and staff performance to inform monitoring and evaluation strategies;
- Assess current compliance activities, identify areas of high risk and evaluate risk factors and documentation practice;
- Conduct internal quality audits to ensure compliance with applicable regulatory requirements and operating procedures are appropriately adhered to;
- Assist in the development of corrective actions plans to address any non-conformance issuesidentified through quality control audits, customer complaint investigation, or accident investigation;
- Collaborate with Social Welfare in-charge to monitor clients complaints;
- Coordinate and monitor all research activities in the EMD including monitoring that all necessary documentation and ethical clearances are in place;
- Coordinate appropriate training programs for immediate staff and other internal areas as approved by H.o.D EMD;
- Supervise, instruct and provide technical directions to assigned audit members;
- Inform and participate in budget development for department including report on resource utilization and budgeting targets;
- Prepare periodic reports as required by the H.o.D and in line with the M&E strategy;
- Report any concerns of fraud or theft to direct supervisor; and
- Any other duties as may be assigned from time to time by the H.o.D.
Qualifications and experience required
- MMed, Masters of Science in Nursing or Public Health;
- Experience in research and relevant quality assurance is preferred;
- At least 2 years management experience in health service industry;
- Excellent communication, planning, organizing and decision making skills;
- Teamwork; and
- Proven knowledge and competence in computer skills (Microsoft word, excel, power point).
