Youth Challenge International (YCI) is recruiting for a Gender Policy Innovator to work on a six-week partner capacity building project in Mwanza, Tanzania with our local partner, Kivulini.

YCI is a global youth development organization that promotes youth innovation to drive positive change. Working with local partners in 8 countries around the world, YCI engages youth in creating solutions to the challenges they face. Kivulini is a women’s rights organization that facilitates the creation of social, economic and legal environments that guarantee women and girls’ rights to live in violence-free communities.
This exciting Youth Innovator opportunity will include a pre-project distance-learning program, followed by an intensive six-week placement in Mwanza (dates Flexible). While in-country, you will work with YCI’s field staff, local partner organizations and the local government to further the reach and relevance of their programming. Your background in gender and policy development combined with strong intercultural communication skills will help build the capacity of our partner, Kivulini, and the local organizations they work with in Mwanza.

In conjunction with Kivulini staff and other organizations working in gender-based violence (GBV) prevention at their Center:
• Review existing policies on gender and other workplace policies for potential issues regarding gender equity
• Survey staff and stakeholders to assess common ideas and practices
• With senior management, develop an organizational gender policy
• Train all staff on policy and mainstreaming gender into program design

Your Skills and Experience:
• Social studies with a focus on gender issues
• Demonstrated experience working with on policy adaptation/development
• Experience in facilitating trainings and workshops
• Experience working with grassroots organizations
• Excellent organizational and planning skills
• Prior cross-cultural experience and strong inter-cultural communication skills

Fundraising Goal: YCI volunteers are required to fundraise and/or contribute a minimum of $600 for these projects to contribute towards YCI’s global youth development programs.
