To fulfill its mission in the Emergency Medicine Department (EMD) MNH has collaborated with the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare (MoHSW) and Abbott Fund Tanzania (AFT) and “to pilot a new framework for delivery of the highest standards of care to all patients in a sustainable way within the existing public health care setting in Tanzania”. Nurse Supervisor -Emergency Medical Department-(EMD)
MNH intends to appoint a Nurse Supervisor to take charge of quality nursing services at EMD. This position is responsible to control, manage and deliver appropriate, consistently high quality, cost effective emergency nursing services to all patients referred or visiting EMD. The role reports to the Head of Department-EMD and supervises EMD Nurses, EMD Operating Theatre Nurses and Health Attendants.
Roles and responsibilities
- Manage nursing staff and health attendants in EMD and EMD Operating theatre;
- Contribute to development and implementation of strategic plans for sustainability;
- Attend to patients and ensure patients are offered efficient and effective nursing care;
- Develop and implement measures to ensure efficient patient flow and throughput;
- Ensure accurate nursing documentation and storage of clients’ data;
- Manage appropriate professional development of nursing staff including clinical training and mentorship;
- Participate in quality assurance measures and evaluation;
- Preparation of duty rosters for nursing staff to ensure adequate staffing at all times and supervise all visiting nurses and student nurses in the EMD;
- Collaborate with Social Worker In-charge to manage patient complaints;
- Collaborate with medical staff on patient care and management decisions;
- Report supply needs and issues to Procurement/ Supply Officer;
- Lead and develop staff capable of delivering on the mandate of the department;
- Ensure all available resources are effectively and efficiently utilized to deliver desired results;
- Inform and participate in budget development for department;
- Report on resource utilization and budgeting targets within area of responsibility;
- Prepare periodic reports as required by the HoD and according to monitoring and evaluation strategy;and
- Any other duties as may be assigned from time to time
Qualifications and experience required
- Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing required;
- Masters degree in Nursing or Public Health preferred, particularly in Nursing;
- Minimum 2 years in a Middle Management in health services;
- Strong leadership and people management skills,
- Team player;
- Good communication skills – English – written and oral;
- Proven knowledge and competence in computer skills (Microsoft word, excel, power point)
