To fulfill its mission in the Emergency Medicine Department (EMD) MNH has collaborated with the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare (MoHSW) and Abbott Fund Tanzania (AFT) and “to pilot a new framework for delivery of the highest standards of care to all patients in a sustainable way within the existing public health care setting in Tanzania”. Medical in Charge- Emergency Medical Department (EMD)
MNH intends to appoint a Medical in Charge to take charge of quality medical service delivery at EMD. This position is responsible to control, manage and deliver appropriate, consistently high quality, cost effective emergency health care, curative and preventive clinical services to all patients referred or visiting EMD. The role reports to the Head of Department -EMD and supervises Residents, Specialists, Interns and Registrar.
Roles and responsibilities
- Supervision of all medical staff in the department and ensure adequate staffing of the unit at all times;
- Contact, liaise and manage all MNH specialists on call to EMD and EMD Operating Theatre;
- Ensure compliance with treatment protocols and drug formularies and other SOPs;
- Supervise of clinical care delivered by interns, registrars, and residents;
- Contribute to development and implementation of strategic plans for sustainability;
- Liaise with MUHAS Residency Program Coordinator on all issues related to clinical rotations and performance;
- Plan and conduct performance appraisals to immediate subordinates as per schedules, providing feedback and developing plans to improve performance;
- Plan, organize and conduct research and disseminate research findings;
- Teach junior doctors, interns and attached students;
- Engage in continuing professional development;
- Ensure all available resources are effectively and efficiently utilized to deliver desired results;
- Inform and participate in budget development for department;
- Report on resource utilization and budgeting targets within area of responsibility;
- Prepare periodic reports as required by the H.o.D and according to monitoring and evaluation strategy;
- Carryout any other duty as assigned by the Head of Department EMD..
Qualifications and experience required
- A degree in Medicine – Post Graduate in Medicine, Critical care is an added advantage;
- Specialization in emergency medicine or surgery preferred;
- Minimum 3 years in a Middle Level Management in health service sector;
- Strong leadership, people management skills and a team player;
- Strong analytical approach to problem solving;
- Good communication skills – English – written and oral;
- Proven knowledge and competence in computer skills (Microsoft word, excel, power point).
