Job Description:
This local position will support strengthening of the health referral monitoring system in the Government of Tanzania (GOT) working through appropriate GOT institutions and stakeholders to strengthen stakeholder coordination, integration of approaches and coverage, quality and use of referral monitoring data for health and social programs at the district and community levels.
Specific responsibilities include:
- Work with GOT and USAID counterparts to determine priority areas to be addressed in strengthening the referral monitoring system for health and social programs
- Support GOT in implementing key activities to strengthen the referral monitoring system by supporting technical working groups, advising counterparts and participating in the implementation of key activities. Examples of these activities include developing standards and operating procedures to be used at the national and sub-national level, and training of health and social program care providers and management teams
- Assist the GOT in building the capacity of health and social workers at the district and community levels to use service delivery and referral monitoring data for the purpose of improving the quality and accessibility of healthcare in Tanzania
- Monitor the performance of the referral monitoring system in targeted districts and community-level sites
- Create work plans, document achievements, and submit quarterly reports
Desired Skills & Experience
Basic Qualifications:
- Master’s Degree and 7-10 years of experience in demography, public health, epidemiology, public policy, health information, community health, or social welfare
- Background in advising, implementing, managing, and assessing information systems
- Background in public health, community health, and social programs
- Experience working with national level stakeholders in strengthening systems including knowledge and experience with routine data collection, quality control, utilization and capacity building
- Experience working with facility and community health workers, community-level health and social services, and sub-national or district health management teams
- Experience working with relevant ministries within the GOT and local partners
Preferred Skills:
- Ph.D
- Excellent interpersonal, communication and coordination skills.
Professional Skills:
- Excellent English oral and written communication skills
- Ability to work in a team environment with people of diverse backgrounds.
