Coram Children's Legal Centre is a national charity committed to promoting children's rights in the UK and worldwide. Coram Children’s Legal Centre aims to:
• Promote and uphold children's rights within the context of UN Convention on the Rights of the Child and the European Convention on Human Rights in the UK and internationally.
• Monitor and develop law, policy and practice concerning children and young people, to inform and influence policy makers and the general public.
• Improve access to justice through legal advice, information and representation for children, young people and adults working on their behalf.
The Socio-Legal Researcher’s role will be within the Centre’s small but busy International Policy and Programmes department. The International department carries out research and technical assistance, undertakes consultancies and delivers programmes and training around the world, working with and for a range of UN agencies, other (I)NGOs and Governments. The department has worked in over thirty countries worldwide, and continues to expand geographically and thematically. Our most recent work includes projects in Kazakhstan, Moldova, South Sudan, Tajikistan, Tanzania, Turkmenistan and Vietnam.
The Socio-Legal Researcher will carry out legal and sociological research on children’s rights issues, provide technical support to programmes, contribute to the Centre’s reports and publications, help identify funding opportunities and report on consultancy contracts and to donors. To succeed you will need to have knowledge of international human rights law; demonstrable experience of qualitative and quantitative research methods, backed by a degree level qualification which includes a substantial element of research; and the ability to communicate clearly, concisely and persuasively to a variety of audiences.
More information about the project and the work of the Centre as a whole is available on our website, www.childrenslegalcentre.com. If you have any questions or would like to find out more about the role, please contact Hazel Kent at hkent@essex.ac.uk.
