About Ligingi Community Learning Centre (LCLC)
The LCLC is the organisational hub at the heart of Ligingi village’s journey to create self-directed, positive pathways of transformation. It was founded by the Ligingi community in May 2011 to facilitate community education, learning and positive action for change. The LCLC is managed by the Local Management Committee and supported by an international team of volunteers based in the city of Melbourne, Australia.
The vision of the LCLC is of a self-sustaining, vibrant, globally-interconnected Ligingi village community by 2040.
The mission is to empower the women, men and children of Ligingi village to pursue their own creative pathways of change and sustainability though collective learning for improved quality of life.
Position overview
The LCLC Community Development Specialist is positioned in Ligingi village and works with the LCLC local management committee (including the Volunteer Community Mobiliser), the wider Ligingi community, partners and other stakeholders, and the LCLC International Advisory Committee (based in Australia). The position formally reports to heads of the International Advisory Committee and to the Local Management Committee.
This exciting role is pivotal to supporting the rapid growth and development of the LCLC as an organisation, so as to effectively facilitate and progress the Ligingi community’s journey of positive change. The position requires a self-driven, committed, independent-minded and experienced individual with excellent interpersonal and communications abilities. The primary functions of this role are:

Key Selection Criteria
Qualifications: • Bachelors or Masters’ degree in Adult and Community Education/ Rural Development / Development Studies or a related field (Essential)
Experience and skills: • At least 2-5 years’ demonstrated experience in community / rural development with development NGOs (Essential) • Demonstrated skills in Participatory Action and Learning methodologies such as REFLECT acquired through community experience in a similar position (Essential) • Demonstrated experience and expertise in one or more thematic areas relevant to the work of the LCLC: Arts & Culture; Education & Health; Environment & Livelihoods (Essential) • Strong computer skills – including Microsoft Office, internet, transferring, uploading and editing photos (Essential) • Excellent stakeholder engagement skills (Essential) • Excellent communication skills – written and verbal, in-person; training / facilitation skills (Essential) • Excellent English (written and verbal) and at least 2 local languages. (Essential) Dhopadhola or willingness to learn is preferable
Personal competences and qualities: • Ability to work and live in a remote village with limited infrastructure and resources (Essential) • A person of exemplary character: positive, proactive, dedicated, reliable, loyal, innovative, respectful, responsible, trustworthy, has excellent initiative (Essential) • Ability to both lead and to take direction (Essential) • Excellent interpersonal skills with an ability to work with a wide range of people both face-to-face and remotely (Essential) • Commitment to the vision, mission, values and approaches of the LCLC (Essential)
