National Agricultural Research Organization is implementing a public-private partnership project with international, regional and local institutions on water efficient maize for Africa (WEMA). The project aims to improve food security and rural livelihoods among small-scale maize producers in Africa by developing drought tolerant-hybrid maize varieties. This Project is funded through African Agricultural Technology Foundation by Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and Howard Buffet Foundation. Feed the Future initiative of USAID is also supporting NARO to improve food security, health and nutrition.
NARO is seeking for dynamic scientists and technicians to implement project activities under the cereals program at the National Crops Resources Research Institute as follows
RESEARCH TECHINICIAN (2 Positions) at Namulonge and Serere for WEMA project
Tasks and Responsibilities:
Prepare for and conduct planting, field maintenance, data collection and harvesting
Assist in computer related activities and provide support for breeding and field testing activities
Supervise and train temporary employees
Work closely with other research sites to keep program activities operating efficiently
Assist in other projects and perform other duties as and when required
Requirement:
Required Skills/Experience:
Diploma in Agricultural related discipline. Certificate of training related to field operations will be an added advantage.
Previous experience in trial planting, maintenance and harvesting.
Relevant training related to field book, data management and analysis.
Salary: - USD/month
