The World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) is an independent conservation organization working in over 60 countries in the world. Our mission is to stop the degradation of the planet’s natural environment and to build a future in which humans live in harmony with nature, by: conserving the world’s biological diversity; ensuring that the use of renewable natural resources is sustainable; promoting the reduction of pollution and wasteful consumption.
We conduct our conservation activities in partnership with government and non-government agencies. WWF UCO now seeks to hire the services of the following positions;
Position: Advocacy and Capacity Building Officer
Reports to: Energy and Climate Manager,
Location: Albertine Rift with occasional trips to Kampala
Major Functions:
Coordination and management of WWF capacity building programme on environmental conservation, energy and climate issues at the local government level throughout the Albertine Rift;
Leads, implements, monitors the reporting on all processes related to WWF contribution to civil society organisational development, capacity Building and advocacy at the Local Government, with support from the Kampala-based core office team.
Requirement:
Required Qualifications
Bachelors Degree in energy and climate studies, development studies, Social Sciences, Communication, Environmental and Natural Resource Management;
At least 3 years of professional experience,
Experience in petroleum development is an added advantage;
Experience in civil society organizational capacity development, lobbying, advocacy, natural resources management is a must;
Fluency in English and at least one other major language spoken (Swahili, Luo and/or Runyakitara) in the Albertine Rift.
Required Skills and Competences
Applicant must not be more than 30 years of age
Highly developed conceptual, analytical and innovative problem-solving ability;
Demonstrated ability to handle complex process and information integration issues;
Extensive theoretical background and practical experience in organization development, civil society engagement, communication, lobbying add advocacy.
Ability to coordinate major capacity building needs assessment, planning, development and implementation of capacity building initiatives;
Ability to maintain effective working relations both as a team member and team leader;
Ability to establish priorities and to plan, coordinate and monitor own work plan and those under his/her supervision.
Proven interpersonal skills and ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with people in a multi-cultural, multi-interest, multiethnic environment;
Capacity of assuming a leading role, often in situations under pressure, in defining and implementing projects with teams of individuals of different culture and background;
Excellent organization skills;
Superb oral and written communications skills;
Must be detail-oriented and have the ability to multi-task under limited supervision.
