WFP and the Children’s Investment Fund Foundation (CIFF) are beginning a three year partnership called “Building the Future for Children under Two - the Right Foods at the Right Time Initiative” that aims to develop a successful model for WFP’s global under two nutrition programmes.
Large-scale nutrition programme that delivers nutritious complementary foods to pregnant and lactating mothers and children under two years has been approved for Phase I out of two phases. The programme learnings will help facilitate programme replication across WFP operations and increase awareness among international stakeholders, including donors and host governments, on the importance of proven food-based approaches to address child under-nutrition.
The selected candidate will be responsible for the following duties:
- Advise Country Office on project design of the WFP CIFF nutrition project, including support on assessment, programme design, operation research, and technical aspects of monitoring and evaluation;
- Provide support to the Overall Project Manager;
- Work closely with HQ Nutrition Units to ensure programmes are in line with WFP policies, criteria and procedures with regard to food and nutrition;
- Assist Country Office in the coordination with governments, UNICEF and other actors for the CIFF activities;
- In partnership with WFP Policy and Programmes Units, liaise with technical units of other agencies, NGOs and research institutes on nutrition with the aim of consolidating emerging scientific and operational nutrition related information. Integrate this learning into the WFP-CIFF work and within WFP more broadly;
- Extract learning from project design and implementation phases and share this within WFP and externally in the form of guidelines, training, and case studies;
- Support strengthening of nutrition capacity among WFP staff and its partners;
- Perform other related duties as required.
Qualifications & Experience Required
Education:
- University degree, preferably at the advanced level, in Nutrition, International Health & Nutrition, Public Health & Nutrition Policy and Management, Family Health & Nutrition, Food Security, Food Technology or other related fields.
Experience:
- At least 3 years of postgraduate progressively responsible professional experience in nutrition, public health management, development projects, emergency assistance, and/or operational aspects of national, bilateral or multilateral food aid or commercial transactions;
- Experience in nutrition survey methodologies, nutrition assessment and relevant data analysis;
- Food security and multisector programme knowledge and experience are desirable.
Technical Skills & Knowledge:
- Strong knowledge of nutrition and recent developments in the field;
- Knowledge of sound research methods and monitoring and evaluation standards;
- Understanding of donor policies, strategies, and programme priorities;
- Advanced computer skills with at least intermediate proficiency in windows based word processing, spreadsheet and nutrition/public health software (i.e. EPI Info);
- General knowledge of UN system policies, rules, regulations and procedures governing administration is highly desirable;
- In-depth knowledge of relevant field of specialization (nutrition, public health, development or other) is an asset;
- Familiarity with quantitative and qualitative health/nutrition survey techniques is an added value.
Competencies:
- WFP’s core competencies for professionals include action management, communication skills, teamwork and high standards of ethics and values.
Language:
- Working knowledge of English and intermediate knowledge of another UN official language (Arabic, French, Spanish, Russian or Chinese) or Portuguese as a WFP working language.
