We are currently searching for an experienced Health and Safety Manager as well as a Health and Safety Superintendent, who would be able to take up the responsibility for the total safety and health program at Tulawaka, based in Tanzania.
The specific duties of the positions include but are not limited to the following:
- Actively support the Barrick Safety and Health vision by striving to meet safety and health goals and objectives through the work responsibilities of this position
- Ensure compliance with company safety and health policies and procedures and relevant Tanzanian safety and health regulations
· Implement and maintain the Barrick Safety & Health Management System at Tulawaka Mine
· Promote a risk management culture at Tulawaka Mine through education and training
· Conduct site-wide baseline risk assessments and gap analysis exercises
· Manage an effective internal audit program to determine the level of compliance with the Barrick Safety & Health System
· Manage the Hazardous Substances Control program through establishment of Chemical registers, MSDS collections and appropriate training of employees
· Identify the training needs of subordinate staff and submit recommendations to the Health, Safety & Training Manager
· Manage and maintain a site wide inspection schedule of all areas of the mine site including facilities manned by contractors
· Administer the accident/incident investigation process to ensure investigations are expediently conducted and documented appropriately in relation to seriousness and high potentiality
· Attend relevant departmental safety related meetings as agreed with the Health, Safety & Training Manager
· Periodically fulfil the responsibilities and accountabilities of the Health, Safety & Training Manager
· Any other duties deemed appropriate by the Health, Safety & Training Manager
PROFESSIONAL AND INTERPERSONAL SKILLS/ATTRIBUTES
Education Requirements:
- Tertiary qualification in Occupational Health & Safety
Experience Requirements:
- Minimum of 5 years post qualification experience in a mining, construction or minerals processing environment with particular emphasis on Open Pit mining.
- Sound working knowledge of Safety Management Systems
- Accident /incident investigation and reporting experience
- Experience in training of site personnel in safety practices and procedures
- Auditing experience
- Possession of excellent communication skills
· Ability to implement plans and achieve goals
· Ability and experience in training, coaching and mentoring subordinate personnel to ensure consistent levels of service are achieved
· Working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs including Word, Excel and Power Point

Responsibilities:
The successful person will be responsible to provide leadership and technical support to the Health and Safety Department and ensure that: ● All mining activities comply with best practice health and safety management standards ● All local, regional and national government relationships in respect of health and safety matters are appropriately represented and managed ● The mine has a best practice Health & Safety management system that is aligned with corporate policy and programs ● The department is ready and available to provide specialist advice, assistance, education and training to enable line management and contractors to achieve accountability for Health and Safety management.
Professionally the successful person will have 15 years industry / mining experience and should be in possession of a relevant tertiary qualification in Safety and Health / Risk Management. The incumbent should also be familiar with the OHS regulations and International Standards and Codes.
