Geology Manager Tanzania-Shinyanga Region

African Barrick Gold’s Bulyanhulu Mine is looking to hire an experienced Geology Manager reporting to the Production Manager. The incumbent will be responsible to ensure maximum profitability is achieved by minimizing ore body dilution. This will be achieved by providing technical leadership to the Geology team to ensure that the best Grade Control techniques and procedures are practiced.

KEY RESULT AREAS/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Provide practical leadership to ensure that employees and contractors adhere to site safety standards that exceed world industry standards and any applicable legislation.
• Interact and participate with the Mining and Drilling contractors responsible for the conduct of site preparation and mining activities, for the Life of Mine.
• Develop and implement mine plans and mine schedules in collaboration with the Production Manager and Process Manager to ensure optimum development and reconciliation of the Bulyanhulu ore body.
• Supervise the maintenance and reconciliation of the Bulyanhulu Resource Block Model and Grade Control Model by the Resource Development Superintendent and Production Geologists.
• Accurately maintain a diamond drill core library of the defined ore reserve and supervise the maintenance of accurate records of the QA/QC of the sample data for the Life of Project for Sarbanes Oxley legislation compliance.
• Accurately maintain Grade Control Reconciliations, Ore Reserve and Resource estimates to JORC accreditation standards.
• Maintain a working environment which ensures that Geology staff gain new skills and achieve their full potential by developing and implementing effective training and mentoring programmes.
• Assess the potential and supervise development of satellite deposits as well as all exploration activities on the Bulyanhulu prospecting licenses
• Prepare and submit Monthly Geology, Geotechnical and Exploration reports as required
• Conduct quarterly performance reviews of the Senior Geology staff.
• Liaise on a daily basis with the Senior Mine Geologist, Resource Development Superintendent, production geology, mine planning & mine operations staff with regard to grade control drilling, ore interpretations and mine planning activities.
• Liaise and interact with Tanzanian Government Departments, External Contractors and Consultants to ensure that Bulyanhulu interests are represented and protected.
• Actively guide Succession Planning within the Geology Team especially for the Senior Geologists to ensure that the PML commitments to the Tanzanian government with respect to the development of Tanzanian employees to assume positions of increasing accountability are achieved.

PROFESSIONAL SKILLS

Education Requirements:

• Bachelor of Science Degree in Geology

Experience Requirements:

• 6 -10 years experience in Mining and Exploration of which 5 years in a senior supervisory level.
• Working experience in Africa or a developing country which requires systematic coaching and training of employees will be a distinct advantage.
• Advanced Skills in Geological Block Modeling, Ore Reserve Evaluations, Ore body Reconciliations, Geostatistical Analysis and Report writing.
• Intermediate Skills in Cost Analysis, Geological Budget Preparation and Preparation and Management of exploration programs.
• Knowledge of Mine Safety Regulations and Industry Best practices.
• Excellent Computer skills in: Datamine Mining Software or similar and MS Office Software package.
• Must have excellent written and spoken communication skills in the English language.
