TERMS OF REFERENCE
The PanAfrican Centre for Gender, Peace and Development (PAC) is a Centre of excellence of higher education offering highly qualifying training programmes on peace, development and peacebuilding with special focus on gender.
It was established in 2006 by Femmes Africa Solidarité (FAS), which is an international women's organisation that has a consultative status with the UN ECOSOCC and working to empower African women to play a leading role in peacebuilding and conflict resolution with the aim of capitalising achievements in terms of training and to overcome capacity building gaps at continental level in terms of gender and peacebuilding.
Based on FAS experience on many violent conflict settings that have been devastating the continent, the PanAfrican Centre's mission is to provide higher training and capacity building programmes for women and men in Africa in order to prepare them to respond effectively to the demand in terms of qualified personnel in the field of gender, peace and security, development and conflict resolution; and also to be able to transfer knowledge at local, regional and international levels. In addition, the Centre aims at promoting African women as development agents in their communities and to actively participate in conflict resolution, peace and decision-making processes. The offered courses are especially designed for professionals, researchers and academics, members of civil society organisations willing to consolidate their expertise in gender, conflict and peacebuilding.
One of the flagship programmes of the Centre is the bilingual Master’s Degree Programme on Gender and Peacebuilding implemented in partnership with the University Cheikh Anta Diop of Dakar (UCAD) and the UN University for Peace (UPEACE), mandated by the United Nations, based in Costa Rica.
