The Mwanza Intervention Trials Unit (MITU) is a product of excellent long-term partnership in health research between the Tanzanian National Institute for Medical Research (NIMR) and the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM).
We have an exciting and challenging vacancy for an Associate Director – Finance and Administration of MITU, to join the scientific team of a research programme on the epidemiology and control of HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases in Mwanza, Tanzania. The post holder will be employed as a staff member of LSHTM, and will be based full-time in Mwanza.
The person appointed will be responsible for ensuring the effective running of the MITU office and premises; managing and developing MITU’s finance function; providing administrative and financial leadership, planning and day-to-day support to MITU’s projects; and supporting MITU’s Scientific Director in the development and implementation of MITU’s policies and procedures. The post holder will have responsibility for the internal affairs of the unit including planning, budgets, logistics, procurement, computing, human resources, communication, publicity and promotion.
The workload will be demanding, requiring the ability to manage constantly shifting priorities. The person we wish to appoint will have administrative experience in a senior role, including experience of preparing and managing budgets.
The initial appointment will be for 24 months and will commence as soon as possible. Further extension of the position may be possible subject to funding.
The post will be full-time on Grade 7 scale of the Professional Support Pathway with a starting salary of between £42,043 and £48,129 per annum depending on qualifications and experience. Additional overseas allowances and benefits will be provided as appropriate.
