The Person and the job:
If you have relevant experience in water resources management with a PhD in hydrology, water resources management or a related discipline, you may be the person that the International Water Management Institute (IWMI) is looking for to fill the position/s of Senior Researcher/Researcher - Hydrology and Water Resources. You will develop a research portfolio on hydrological processes and water resources management at landscape and basin levels, and provide leadership and strategic direction for similar research activities in West Africa. The position holder will be based at IWMI’s West Africa Office in Accra, Ghana, and will report to the Theme Leader for the Institute’s research theme on ‘Water Availability and Access’.
You will:
- conduct research to build an understanding across a range of issues, related to hydrology, water resources modeling, environmental flows, basin water allocation, natural and built water storage management;
- provide leadership in conceptual and empirical research related to improving water resources management in West Africa across a range of scales, and under existing and possible future conditions including those resulting from climate change;
- identify new research trends and niches, and develop new research proposals for projects addressing important hydrology and water management issues in West Africa;
- initiate, develop and sustain collaboration with research partners, governments and donors in West Africa and elsewhere in Africa, as well as in Europe, Asia and the USA;
- contribute to relevant research portfolios of the CGIAR Research Program on Water, Land and Ecosystems (WLE) and Climate Change, Agriculture and Food Security (CCAFS), particularly in relation to water resources management systems and decision-making under climate variability and climate change; and
- prepare research reports, journal articles and other scientific manuscripts (e.g., policy guidelines, policy briefs, etc.) for dissemination and uptake of research results.
You will possess:
- a PhD in hydrology, water resources management or a related discipline;
- relevant experience in a broad field of water resources management with a focus on interactions between agriculture, water resources and environment in Africa;
- experience in diverse hydrological and water resources analyses models, tools and techniques and their applications in the basin context;
