This position provides technical and managerial leadership for the Child Protection team within the Child Protection and HIV/AIDS department. This person will be responsible for overall management of the child protection portfolio, and delivery of technical support to Save the Children’s child protection and OVC programs. With strong technical expertise in child protection issues and the ability to oversee a diverse team, the Senior Director will build a clear strategy for effective delivery and growth of programs, successfully pursue new business opportunities for the technical area and lead the team in providing technical support and quality assurance for child protection technical staff and programs both in the field and headquarters. This position will sit on the Child Protection and HIV/AIDS cross-functional business team
Responsibilities
Under the direction of the AVP, help set vision and goals for child protection portfolio, engaging other program colleagues, country offices and relevant departments Develop and guide the implementation of multi-year strategic and supporting operational plans to achieve agency objectives and to expand our reach to children In collaboration with the Child Protection and other technical teams, Resource Development, New Business Development (NBD) and Regional and Country Offices, lead efforts to secure funding for child protection programming from public and private funding streams, including foundations, private donors and key bilateral donors, such as USAID Provide leadership for development of global technical assistance and oversight of quality implementation in child protection programming in development, transition, and emergency settings In collaboration with child protection technical staff, support start-up of new programs and work planning, and provide technical input throughout project to ensure programs are current and of high quality Supervise Child Protection Advisors, Specialists as well as the OVC Advisor and, as necessary, other senior technical staff seconded to Save the Children International country offices with the composition of the team evolving over time Support (or develop if necessary) Child Protection networks of practice including Child Protection Global Initiative group and other SC members Liaise with other program areas and sectors including HIV/AIDS, Education, Livelihoods, Humanitarian Response, Sponsorship, to coordinate programming, ensure quality, expand coverage of essential services, and develop multi-sectoral interventions
Requirements
Advanced degree in social work, child protection, or related field or equivalent experience At least 10 years of progressively responsible technical and programmatic experience in international child protection programs in development or emergency contexts Experience providing distance and in-person technical support and oversight to child protection programs Proven organizational and management skills Strong interpersonal skills – ability to work across boundaries Experience in program design and proposal development for private foundations, bi- and/or multilaterals, and/or USAID; Proven ability to think and act strategically and collaboratively Proven ability to manage complex programs, budgets, and dispersed staff Understanding of development and emergency effects on children’s protection Experience in representation with international bodies, government, and other donor organizations
