CARE International in Uganda (CARE) seeks to recruit two
qualified Ugandan nationals for positions in a new Forest Resources
Sector Transparency (FOREST) Programme that is launched by CARE in 2013
for a 5 year period. CARE works with national partners to make sustainable improvements in the lives of the very poor. An important area of engagement is to improve transparency, accountability and responsiveness in governance of Uganda’s natural resources. Uganda’s forest cover is reducing at an alarming rate and if this trend continues unabated, Uganda will within a few decades be without any significant forest cover. The forests are essential for the Ugandan economy and livelihoods and deforestation and forest degradation contribute significantly to global greenhouse emissions, Efforts to arrest the situation are clearly insufficient and ineffective. There are connections between forest degradation, illegal logging, encroachment and corruption. The FOREST programme sees civil society as the key actor in effecting change in the forestry sector. The programme is lead by a CARE FOREST Programme Manager and will be implemented in partnership with a handful of key strategic civil society partners. Policy Advocacy Specialist Job Summary:
