The MRC/UVRI Research Unit on AIDS is a bilateral multi-disciplinary
research organisation funded by Medical Research Council (UK), DFID (UK)
and other donor organisations and has been operational in Uganda since
1988. It is a centre of excellence in research, conducting large-scale
epidemiological and intervention studies, clinical trials, biological
and immunological research and behavioural studies. The Unit’s HIV Care
research program comprises research projects on interventions designed
to improve comprehensive care of people infected with HIV.
The MRC Unit invites applications from suitably qualified Ugandans to fill the position of MEDICAL OFFICER within the HIV Care Research Program working on an ongoing randomised double blind noninferiority trial to evaluate whether long-term primary and secondary prophylaxis with cotrimoxazole can be safely discontinued among Ugandan adults who are stable on antiretroviral therapy. The successful clinician will join a dedicated team of clinical and research staff at the Masaka Hospital site of the MRC Research Unit.
This appointment will be for a period of 1 year.
Job Purpose:
To provide clinical services for patients enrolled in an ongoing clinical trial and to contribute to collection and presentation of clinical trial data.
This position is within the HIV Care Research Program working on an ongoing randomised double blind noninferiority trial to evaluate whether long-term primary and secondary prophylaxis with cotrimoxazole can be safely discontinued among Ugandan adults who

Job Purpose: To provide a vital component of the Units internal controls by having supervisory and accounting responsibility for the areas of stores, procurement, fuel management and vehicle charge-out plus oversight of local contractor payments and travel billing/recharging ensuring all SOP are followed at all times.
To ensure that accounting entries are passed accurately onto the Navision and Oracle accounting platforms and for regular monthly reporting and reconciliations to the Senior Accountant or Director of Operations.

- • Clinical care- Provide outpatient clinical care to study participants. Provide in-patient care and on call services as appropriate. Report on clinical progress of study participants when required.
- • Data collection and management- Collect data as required by the protocol, complete source documents and CRFs and submit them for data entry, and resolve data queries
- • Communication - Contribute to reports scientific writing on study outcomes
- • PI designee duties- perform other duties assigned by the project leader and Principal Investigator
- • MB ChB degree with hospital-based clinical experience including at least 1 year of general medicine.
- • Previous experience with the use of anti-retroviral drugs, previous research experience and training in GCP would be an advantage

Roles & Responsibilities
- • Supervise of Accounts officer in the areas of stores, procurement, building contracting, fuel and vehicle accounting.
- • Provide support for the Senior Accountant; and cover for and the second accountant during their absence.
- • Review and analyse fuel purchase, delivery and usage cycles plus charge out to projects, including supervising the safe keeping of the fuel stores across all stations and overseeing the regular reconciliations from the accounts to the physical stock.
- • Review and analysis of mileage claims and reports, and other rechargeable activities. Oversee the operations of the Stores functions for Entebbe, Kyamulibwa and Masaka stations.
- • Variance analysis and report on incomes and expenses against budget.
- • Working with the Senior Accountant to help prepare monthly expenditure and financial reports sent out to project leaders and funders, and Head office and producing these reports independently when the SA is on leave
- • Supervise the activities and functioning of the Procurement section in both local and overseas purchases.. Ensuring Value-For-Money in procurement and that the Unit uses only approved suppliers.. Ensuring that tenders are placed and advertised correctly.
- • Liaising with the freight forwarding and clearing agent companies on deliveries, and clearance of goods through the air and land ports, ensuring goods are received as per the bill of lading and rejecting any damaged goods. Provide support for the external and internal Audits conducted.
- • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Commerce, or Business Administration.
- • Full/Part Professional Accountant qualification (ACCA, CIMA, CPA)
- • Three years’ experience in a busy accounts office with direct supervision of accounts personnel.
- • Experience in an international donor funded organisation.
- • Experience working with ERP packages, excellent excels; MS Office programs, office equipment.
- • Good people management skills.
- • Working knowledge of MS Dynamics-Navision; Oracle ERP system.
2. Project Manager
Job Purpose

Roles & Responsibilities
- • Assist in designing the elements of the project plan for project implementation and monitor completion of tasks.
- • Conduct quality acceptance activities in accordance with the project approach.
- • Attend project and supplier meetings as required.
- • Recommend solutions to the Operations Director and UK project manager in respect of testing, process or design issues, documenting any issues, problems, including conflicts, interferences and errors/omissions.
- • Ensure coordination of the business interfaces in Navision set up across the different areas of the MRC/UVRI operations.
- • Prepare and/or edit meeting minutes, presentations and tables and update tracking tools regularly.
- • File all project documents (hard and soft copies)
- • Provide administrative support to the Project and the Operational Directors in respect of the project.
- • Follow up with the internal staff and sub-contractors for progress reports.
- • Coordinate staff training in accordance with the planned go-live schedules.
Essential
- • Will have previously worked on a Navision installation – in depth knowledge and experience of Navision essential.
- • Understands project lifecycle activities.
- • Previous design experience of Management Information Systems.
- • Can communicate effectively and efficiently with a wide range of business users, stakeholders and project staff.
- • Must be able to work to deadlines and deal with tasks in a structured manner.
- • Will have experience and awareness of Finance, Procurement & HR processes
- • Knowledge of stock control processes and warehouse functions (i.e. stock issue and replenishment).
- • Experienced in migration of data from legacy to new systems and familiarity of the controls required.
- • Will have supported either in-house or hosted IT applications as part of a team or in isolation.
- •Desirable
- • SQL programming experience to develop and implement bespoke reports.
- • Qualified accountant.
- • Accredited Microsoft engineer.
- • Experience of having implemented a barcoding system.
- • Experience of working in the NGO or life Sciences research environment with international donors.
