Human Resources Business Partner - East/West Africa
Purpose & scope of the role
Reporting directly to the Human Resources Director, Africa & Middle East (with a dotted line to the Managing Director) you will work in partnership with the business’s management team in providing a professional and pro-active full spectrum HR service to maximize business performance.
Key Performance Areas
- Implement HR strategy and activities
- To contribute to the development of and support the implementation and evaluation of the people strategy
- Develop and manage the implementation of effective HR processes in line with the HR strategy
- Contribute to the continuous development of HR Best Practice
- Development of strong performance culture
- Ensure efficient handling (buy-in and compliance) of bi-annual appraisals processes as well as the probationary monitoring
- Pro-actively support the management of staff turnover, absence etc. to reduce levels in accordance with agreed targets.
- To guide managers on how to manage performance standards within their teams, provide coaching/counseling tips and guidance on how to give feedback in accordance with policy and procedure.
- To provide coaching to the management team to continually improve people management skills
- Recruitment and retention
- To ensure an efficient and professional recruitment service is provided to the business by means of the management of all recruitment campaigns with regard to the sourcing, screening, interviewing, pre-employment checks and offer processes for all roles up to and including Management roles in line with best practice and applicable regulations.
- Undertake proactive approach to ensuring headcount levels are in line with plans, recommending recruitment activities where applicable.
- Implementing retention mechanisms to reduce staff turnover and improve employee morale.
- Employee engagement & well-being
- Build strong employee value propositions that attract, develop, reward and retain top talent; assist in fostering an environment that attracts and retains qualified employees; and consult with management on morale, turnover, and performance evaluation.
- Assist in the implementation of employee well-being initiatives.
- Contribute to the development of and implement effective monitoring mechanisms for employee satisfaction with supporting processes to feedback the results.
- Design, implement & manage an Employee Assistance Program and regularly review utilisation of program with current service provider. Report back to management team on trends identified and make recommendations to address these.
- Co-ordinate Wellness Days and Campaigns in line with wellness strategy
- Employee relations
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of local HR laws & regulations.
- Ensure that local HR policies are implemented and managed fairly and consistently.
- To have responsibility for the provision of advice on discipline and grievance issues and being present at disciplinary enquires as HR representative where appropriate. Managing and supporting the HR team giving advice on D & G issues.
- Management of significant changes to terms and conditions of service, contract of employment changes, potential re-structures etc.
- Management of short term sickness absence and long term disability.
- Develop policies and procedures in line with business requirements and act as custodian for these policies
- Learning & Development
- Provide guidance on individual development plans, career & succession planning
- Manage & coordinate the training calendar and activities
- Reward & benefits
- Assist HRD with development and implementation local of Compensation & Benefit (C&B) practices & plans
- Implement and ensure the application of the annual salary review process within the business
- Production and analysis of management information
- Ensure production of relevant HR related management information. Analyse and spot trends within the business and advise accordingly.
- Financial
- Develop cost effective HR solutions to business problems, direct audits of the HR function, and design management reports for analysis
- Social responsibility
- Co-ordinate Corporate Social Responsibility activities in-country
- Project management
- Support the HRD in the development of business plans and projects
- Implement, monitor and manage and ad-hoc HR projects as agreed by the HRD
- Operational
- Establish and monitor operational performance standards in compliance with company policies, procedures, and guidelines and maintain accepted and proper administrative operations
- Attend to international employee mobility
- Ensure accurate and updated record keeping of all employee files and HR data
Desired Skills & Experience
Key Competencies and Skills
- A degree or equivalent qualification in HR or related discipline
- At least 8 years of HR experience; HR generalist/business partner capacity in a research agency, client company, or management or marketing consultancy is preferred
- Work experience in East Africa is essential
- Proven ability to forge relationships with key stakeholders
- A great communicator (both written and fluent in English), listener, negotiator and influencer
- Strong organizational skills, detail-oriented and process driven
- Resilient, up for the challenge of a demanding job in a high growth environment
- Demonstrable ability to set priorities and multi-task
- Proven track record in working productively with others in a rapidly growing business
- Capability to function in a cross-cultural environment
- Ability to observe confidentiality at all times is essential
- Ability & willingness to travel as/when required
- Working knowledge of MS office applications (Word, Excel & Powerpoint) is imperative.
