Are you ActionAid Kenya’s new Tax Justice Advisor?
AA Kenya is looking for a strong tax and campaign professional to support ActionAid’s programme implementation on promoting fair distribution of public resources in Kenya. The Advisor will play a significant capacity development role, not only towards the staff of AA Kenya, but also towards the Tax Justice Network-Africa and the East Africa Tax and Governance Network.
The Tax Justice Advisor is placed through the People4Change program; which is a people-to-people support programme providing development support to ActionAid and her partner organisations. People4Change promotes cross national solidarity and innovative approaches for capacity development initiatives. Therefore, this placement is only eligible for applicants, who do not have permanent residency in Kenya. Below a number of job tasks are listed, but a more detailed job description can be found attached.
Job tasks include:
· Assist in coordinating the tax justice campaign in AA Kenya
· Support the development of a campaign strategy
· Develop the capacity of ActionAid Kenya staff as well as the staff of the two tax networks mentioned above to undertake national tax campaigns
· Support concrete campaign and lobbying activities in relation to tax
Required qualifications:
· Post graduate degree with specialization in governance, public policy or related field.
· Profound knowledge of taxation and tax issues in contexts similar to Kenya
· Minimum of 4 years of governance and taxation related work experience preferably from East/Southern Africa
· Strong understanding and knowledge of the intellectual and practical underpinnings of civil society engagement with tax justice networks
· Proven track record in successful policy campaign, advocacy, lobbying and alliance building

February 4th and 5th: Shortlisted candidates are contacted
February 7th and 8th: First round of phone/SKYPE interviews with shortlisted candidates.
February 13th: Personality Assessment feedback via phone/SKYPE
February 19th: Face-to-Face interviews at the ActionAId Kenya office in Nairobi, by the final two candidates
All applicants will be notified after the final selection.
Starting date: 1st of April 2013
Contract start is subject to approval of work and residence permit. The assignment is for 24 months.
