Independent Selection Panel Member (ISPM): Short Course Awards
As part of the Australian Government’s increasing engagement in Africa, Australia Awards in Africa (AAA) offer study opportunities at post-graduate level to candidates from eligible African countries. The initiative providers over 1000 awards for study at Masters level for up to two years as well as short professional development courses of up to three months. There are also limited opportunities for PhD studies in Agriculture-related disciplines. GRM International is engaged as the Managing Contractor to provide administrative and logistical support for the AAA Initiative.
GRM International is now seeking Expressions of Interest from specialists and generalists with appropriate skills, qualifications and experience to serve as Selection Panel Members for the selection of eligible African candidates for Short Courses Awards. In 2013, up to 400 places will be available to experienced employees from African public, private and civil society organisations in short courses in Mining, Agriculture, Public Policy and Health, as follows:
- Mining Course 1: Occupational Health and Safety
- Mining Course 2: Geospatial Information Systems
- Mining Course 3: Mining Resources Regulation and Management
- Mining Course 4: Mining Resources – Sustainable Management of Revenue Flows
- Mining Course 5: Managing Corporate Community Relationships
- Agriculture Course 1: Dryland Farming
- Agriculture Course 2: Postharvest management of maize, rice and legumes
- Agriculture Course 3: Water harvesting and small scale irrigation
- Agriculture Course 4: Livestock
- Public Policy Course 1: International Diplomacy
- Public Policy Course 2: Organizational Development
- Public Policy Course 3: Public Private Partnerships (PPP)
- Public Policy Course 4: Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Policy Reform
- Public Policy Course 5: TVET Teacher Skills
- Public Policy Course 6: Trade Policy Design, Analysis and Negotiation
- Public Policy 7: English for Special Purposes
- Health 1: Maternal, Neonatal and Child Health
The ISPM (Short Course Awards) will assess applicants’ documents, submitted in support of their application and, using templates provided by GRM, provide their scored assessments to guide AusAID in selecting candidates for a place in the Short Course Award program in 2013.
ISPMs will work remotely, as members of a ‘virtual’ selection panel. Up to 15 days of inputs will be required from panel members between 14 January – 01 February 2013. Depending on applicant numbers and other factors, these dates may be subject to change and the quantum of required inputs may vary. The timetable for selection is very strict and individuals selected to be a Selection Panel member must be able to commit to providing inputs during this period. ISPMs must also have access to a computer with a reliable network connection as key documents will be transmitted electronically by GRM International.
Panel members will work under the guidance of a Selection Panel Chair and will report to the Deputy Team Leader (DTL), GRM International, Australia Awards in Africa Initiative (AAA).
An assessment of the skills and experience required for the role, and an appropriate remuneration will be provided to (Non-AusAID) panel members, in accordance with AusAID’s Adviser Remuneration Framework.
