Médecins sans Frontières (MSF) Spain is an international humanitarian Non Governmental Organization, operating in Somalia. We are currently recruiting for the position of Medical Doctor-General Practitioner, based in Jowhar, Somalia.
General Purpose of the Job: • Ensure proper medical intervention and, supervision of patients in the Stabilization centre (malnutrition inpatient treatment unit), IPD, OPD. • He / She is able to diagnose and treat the majority of the most common diseases and the ones involved in outbreaks, as cholera and measles. • He/ She has knowledge about malnutrition and its medical management • He/ She will support other medical areas in the health facility as OPD, EPI, laboratory as needed • He/ She able to manage small surgical procedures as sutures, dressings • He/ She manage an in patient facility. • He/ She follows actively the application of MSF Standards, protocols and guidelines • The MD position will collaborate in the ooverall coordination and analysis of date collection and Eemergency Preparedness and Response in the project • To participate in development of the medical activities in general in collaboration with other doctor, medical supervisors and medical co ordination team in Nairobi.
Specific Responsibilities and Tasks:
General Knowledge of MSF and Safety at work • Co-operation with the colleagues of own and other departments • Is aware of activities of other departments and respect specific rules and procedures • Comply with the health and safety rules. • Ensure all staff supervised by him/her complies with the health and safety rules related to the job. • Respect medical ethics at all times
- OPD / 2 nd line consultations: • Conduct 2nd line consultations on patients whose pathological status exceeds the knowledge and skills of the OPD consultants. • Prescribe treatment according to MSF protocols • Refers patients if necessary to other hospitals • Participate in organisation of formal refresher courses and on the job training in diagnostics and treatment of the OPD consultants. • To participate in OPD meetings. • Improve in general the quality of the medical consultations done by the consultants in the OPDs.
- IPD
• Do the medical round on a scheduled basis with nurses on duty • Prescribe treatment according to MSF guidelines and protocols • Supervise the dressing procedures during medical rounds • Supervise the admission and discharge of patients, prescription of medications and other routine procedures • Check on severely ill patients daily - Stabilization Centre:
• Responsible for nutritional and medical treatment in SC. • Involvement of the staff in the planning, providing feedback of the past month achievements, and to regularly evaluate the achievements according to set indicators. • Work closely with the nursing staff to improve general organisation, medical- and nursing procedures in the ward.

- National staff Health • Follow up of the national staff health and the national staff health policy. • To liase with medical supervisors and medical coordination team in Nairobi incase of referral of national staff.
- Training: • To participate in trainings given to Nurses and other staff organised in the hospital. • To participate in trainings given in Nairobi or other locations by MSF where necessary. • Identify training needs and perform trainings for staff as necessary in collaboration with the other doctor, medical supervisors and medical co ordination team in Nairobi.
- Management issues • To have regular meetings with local staff on demand • To follow the care and hygiene activities of the medical staff in the SC and OPD • To actively participate in staff training activities • To counsel patients or care-taker who are inclined to default Requirements:
Education: • Degree in Medicine Experience: • Experience in an MSF facility or in any other organization with Medical background or knowledge. Languages: Fluent in English: written and spoken
