Organizational Context: Jesuit Refugee Service (JRS) is an international organization of the Catholic Church, in particular of the Society of Jesus and is a collaborative venture between the laity and the religious. Jesuit Refugee Service is involved in a service to refugees, IDPs and other forcibly displaced persons, through personal presence. The service that JRS offers is direct and human, and often exposed to the sufferings and limitations of refugee life.
Position 1: Community Service Learning Track Facilitator- Teacher Education
Description
The position serves within newly developing pilot online tertiary education partnership between JRS and number of Jesuit Universities in the USA called Jesuit Commons – Higher Education at the Margins (JC-HEM). The position is based in Kakuma refugee camp, Kenya. The CSLT Facilitator and JC-HEM Diploma in Liberal Studies Liaison will be responsible for development and delivery of 15-week (150 hrs total) professional course in Teacher Education (TE) for refugees and host community members in Kakuma. At the same time, the position serves as a Liaison for 35 students of online Diploma in Liberal Studies program established through JC-HEM.
Key Responsibilities - Collaborate with a faculty member at a US Jesuit University to design curriculum for 15-week (150 hours) Teacher Education CSLT - Design lesson plans for TE – CSLT - Facilitate transparent and efficient recruitment process for refugees and host community members to participate in TE – CSLT - Carry out teaching, on-going assessment and student support for TE – CSLT students - Maintain M&E and detailed reporting for TE-CSLT - Develop and maintain partnerships with UN agencies, NGOS, CBOS and other partners, specifically LWF, for service learning component of the TE-CSLT - Serve as liaison for JC-HEM Diploma in Liberal Studies students in communication with JRS administration, US based faculty members and Kakuma based team members supporting students with tutoring - Carry out quarterly individual meetings with JC-HEM Diploma in Liberal Studies students - Assist with recruitment, regular student meetings and special events for JC-HEM Diploma in Liberal Studies students
Qualifications: - Bachelor’s degree in Education with relevant professional with a minimum of 3 year experience - Experience with teaching adults in multicultural environment or willingness to learn - Ability to develop curriculum and lesson plans relevant to refugee audiences - Excellent computer skills and comfortable with computer-based communication - Interest in program development - Excellent communication skills in English (written and oral) - Flexibility, resilience to stress and ability to adapt to working in remote area with adverse climatic and environmental conditions
Position 2: Project Accountant
Key Responsibilities
- Supports JRS Kakuma project in preparing a consolidated budget for the project and gets the approved by the Country Office.
- Maintenance accounts; monitors budgets and cash flow and prepares financial reports
- Oversees and supports the financial functions of the project in accordance with relevant rules and procedures and ensure proper financial management of project funds.
- Ensures the proper procurement functions of the projects in accordance with JRS guidelines and ensure of proper utilization of project assets.
- Ensures proper utilization of resources, including prompt accountability of funds and reporting by various departments.
- Reviews & analyze monthly accounts of the project with the Project Director
- Monitor & control; all transactions before presenting them to Country Office.
- Process, review & control all purchases for projects.
- Is responsible for the review of the assets, filing & all book keeping in the projects.
- Work with Programs Officer in reporting, budgeting, analysis & planning
Qualifications: - Bachelor’s degree in Accounts or equivalent with relevant professional with a minimum of 3 year experiences - At least CPA part II or its equivalent - Excellent accounting and analytical skills; - Excellent skills in Microsoft Excel, Access & Word and a general understanding of donor and governmental requirements - Excellent computer skills and comfortable with computer-based communication - Flexibility, resilience to stress and ability to adapt to working in remote area with adverse climatic and environmental conditions - Excellent communication skills. - Ability to work as a team member. - Ability to operate in a cross-cultural environment requiring flexibility; - Ability to work under pressure within strict deadlines and under minimum supervision.
