For more than 50 years, the African Wildlife Foundation (AWF) has been a key player in African conservation and sustainable development. AWF is currently seeking a talented and motivated professional to lead the design of the next generation of conservation projects and its fundraising efforts from bilateral and multilateral donors for its Programs across Africa.
Key Responsibilities
Reporting to the Vice President, Program Design, the PDD will be a senior member of AWF Program Design team and will be responsible for high level donor contact development and management, opportunity identification, preparation and coordination of often complex proposals in response to identified opportunities, working closely and collaboratively with AWF thematic leads (Pillars) and senior Program staff. The successful candidate is expected to make significant contributions to AWF analysis of conservation issues and to AWF knowledge management. Operationally this entails leading and facilitating overall AWF relationships with assigned bilateral and multilateral donors in Africa, supporting AWF strategy, planning and budgeting processes at organizational and departmental levels, providing oversight on servicing of donor relationships for awarded grants, conducting analysis, learning, knowledge management and communications activities. This position will be based in AWF’s HQ office in Nairobi, Kenya with occasional travel to the field.

Top class postgraduate (MBA, MSc or PhD) qualification required in relevant field e.g. economics, business management, conservation, natural resource management, rural/agricultural development, climate change.
At least 10 years relevant experience of working at a responsible level in conservation, with direct experience of fundraising at scale for conservation in Africa.
Demonstrable experience of operating at strategic management level in conservation organizations.
Demonstrable experiencing of engaging in high level stakeholder consultation with regards to conservation in Africa, including donor presentations and policy dialogue.
Proven leadership and management skills;
Ability to communicate effectively with a wide group of partners, including proactive sharing of information and reporting;
Have outstanding interpersonal skills including the ability to negotiate and manage organizational relationships
Have the ability to conceptualize and write project documents including concept notes, proposals, work plans, log frames, budgets, and reports
Ability to work as part of a team;
Fluency in English essential; fluency in French a strong advantage.
