Juba, South Sudan - The Food Security Programs Coordinator will be responsible for overall coordination and program quality of the food security projects throughout South Sudan, both financial and programmatic. This position will support and train field-level project management staff in implementing existing activities while also providing monitoring and evaluation tools to assess progress against agreed objectives. The Programs Coordinator will also identify areas and opportunities for development of new Food Security projects.
The position will be based in Juba but may travel 50% of the time to Samaritan’s Purse (SP) field sites. The Food Security Programs Coordinator will report to the Country Director (CD) or his designee.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Coordination of and technical consultation with all Emergency Food Security project managers. • Encourage ongoing professional development of Food Security project managers through support, guidance, training and mentoring. • Provide excess capacity for nutrition programing on the ground in the event of emergencies, when Program Managers are on leave and when programmatic needs justify. • Work closely with program and administrative managers to build their capacity and improve program quality in areas of program, finance, and human resource management. • Provide professional representation of SP at meetings with government, donor and civil society partners, actively engaging with valuable contacts to increase support for SP programming. • Work collaboratively with the County Director (CD)/Deputy Country Director (DCD) in the set-up of new Food Security projects, including financial, logistical, personnel and on-site support where required. • Establish clear strategy and direction for the Emergency Food Security programing in South Sudan. • Ensure all project activities are conducted in accordance with the agreed work-plans and proposals. • Ensure effective budget management at field level, including correct coding of expenses and adherence to SP’s financial management guidelines. • Make regular visits to SP field sites to provide field staff support, address programmatic challenges, and explore potential program possibilities. • Assist in writing proposals and program budgets. • Submit monthly reports to the CD/DCD, including progress against objectives, activity summary, issues faced, impact stories and photos. • Demonstrate exemplary Christian servant leadership in all aspects of work and relationships. • Attend daily morning devotions and participate in prayer support for the ministry, its donors and volunteers. • Maintain a strong Christian witness to colleagues, vendors, charitable beneficiaries, and the general public. • Assess, manage, and report critical physical, emotional, or spiritual concerns of supervised staff.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Maintains a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Is a consistent witness for Jesus Christ. • Bachelor’s degree from four-year college or university in International Development or a related field; or one to two years related experience and/or equivalent combination of education and experience. • One year of college-level Biblical studies is preferred. • Food security and/or infrastructure assets-based programming experience in Africa. • Proven management and leadership experience. • Ability to travel to field sites to monitor projects. • Excellent planning and organizational skills. • Above average communication skills – both verbal and written. • Works well in a diverse team and a pressured environment. • Ability to communicate and interact well with people of different educational, linguistic, cultural and socio-economic backgrounds. • Strong relational skills and financial management experience preferred. • Diplomacy, negotiating skills.
12 month contract with the potential for renewal.
This is an unaccompanied position.
