World Vision International (WVI) is a global network of people committed to enhance the well-being of children everywhere by empowering families and communities to overcome the challenges of poverty and injustice.
World Vision began work in Kenya in 1974 during a time of severe drought and famine that affected most parts of the country. After helping to feed the hungry, World Vision then moved into longer-term community development activities and now works with communities in all eight provinces of Kenya.
At the start of the child sponsorship program, there were 2,000 sponsored children. This number has now grown to a total of 151,420 children in 61 Programme Areas. World Vision Kenya (WVK) currently has 14 grant projects spread across the country.
The National Director – WV Kenya will strategically lead, develop and direct the implementation of all aspects of World Vision Kenya’s Ministry as an effective member of the World Vision Partnership to ensure high ministry quality and high impact in the field. You will also be accountable for all of aspects of WV’s work in the country.
We are looking for a visionary leader who can combine strong business disciplines with inspirational leadership skills in line with our Christian values and ethos. You will have a passionate desire to help others, especially children.
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
- Ensure high ministry quality and high impact in the field by ensuring the organization is consistently meeting and exceeding its annual targets in all areas
- Model a high standard of personal Christian leadership, ministry and integrity though lifestyle and work relationships, and provide spiritual guidance to staff on the Vision, Mission and WV Core Values.
- Lead processes to transition national office governance from advisory status to governing board
- Lead and manage WV Kenya’s team in a way that facilitates a high performing culture, open, trustworthy relationships and integrity; Promote a culture of learning and development, employee engagement and good stewardship of human capital in the office
- Ensure efficient and effective organizational practices, that result in successful financial and operational audit scores
- Develop and maintain capacity to respond to natural and man-made emergencies
- Ensure the office complies to local legal requirements and standards
- Explore opportunities and facilitate National Resource Development (local fundraising) plan
REQUIRED SKILLS INCLUDE:
- Basic University Degree, preferably a Graduate degree in Organizational Leadership, MBA or MA degree in relevant field
- Good knowledge of financial management and accounting principles
- At least 5 years of experience successfully overseeing large (multi-million USD) grant funded programs-achieving satisfactory evaluations from donor agencies.
- Must have managed an organization, business or division with a complex budget of $30M USD and a staff of at least 500 people
- Experience and/or understanding of advocacy execution, national advocacy strategy development and leading advocacy campaigns
- Experience in Microfinance operations is a plus
- Significant management experience (general/operational) where there is evidence of both accountability & managerial know-how
