Purpose:
Under supervision of the Editor (SOWC), you will manage the preparation of UNICEF advocacy publications, primarily The State of the World’s Children Report (SOWC).
Qualification:
Advanced university degree in international affairs, journalism or other development-related field. Experience and competencies in writing, editing and editorial processes. Five years of relevant work experience in editing and writing to a high standard. Experience writing/editing for publications an asset.
Fluency in English. Working knowledge of French or Spanish an asset.

Key Expected Results:
- Manage preparation of advocacy publications; work with the Editor (SOWC) to conceptualize theme and approach ensuring consistency with UNICEF brand guidelines; write and report on UNICEF activities and supervise consultant researcher and writer as necessary; solicit and evaluate materials from field and HQ offices and divisions; write and rewrite and edit copy; oversee copyediting and fact checking; collaborate with design, production and distribution staff to ensure high-quality design and printing and distribution of report in time for launch; evaluate use of report.
- Co-edit The State of the World’s Children Report, UNICEF’s main flagship publication, aimed at promoting understanding of and support for key development issues affecting children.
- Oversee development and implementation of basic statistical tables for use in The State of the World’s Children Report.
- Edit other materials as assigned.
