Oxfam in Kenya implements an exciting and dynamic programme; incorporating both rapid and slow onset emergencies, longer term development and influential advocacy policy work. 

Oxfam Kenya is engaging in the great changes taking place in Kenya including the devolution of government,  reparation for peaceful elections, the discovery of Oil in the Arid Lands and the expansion of informal urban settlements. 

Oxfam in Kenya works in Turkana, Dadaab, Wajir and the Nairobi informal settlements as well as on national level governance and coordination issues in multistakeholder fora. To this end, we are seeking to fill the following positions:

Markets and Trade Programme Manager

Lodwar Based
Contract: 2 years Fixed Term,
National Level C2
Salary: Kes.247,713 gross per month, plus other benefits
  • Reporting to the Food Security and Livelihoods Team Leader, the Markets and Trade Programme Manager will be responsible for the strategic planning and support for effective and efficient implementation of markets and trade programme on value chains development, according to the ASALs livelihoods strategy. 
  • He/She will be responsible for spearheading the development of the fish and livestock value chains in Turkana County;
  • will offer technical and business support to traders and producers of fish and livestock products in Turkana;
  • will maintain working relationships with the Deputy Programme Coordinator- Turkana, while working
  • closely with the Markets and Livelihoods Advisor and Private Sector Advisor, based in Nairobi, alongside other local agencies and key line-Government Ministry officials.
  • To be successful in this role you will have experience in management of complex and technically demanding programme elements with ability to analyse complex contexts, monitor change and translate into appropriate planning while maximizing impact, proven leadership skills with ability to manage and support team members to develop their skills and potentials. 
  • You will also possess a degree in Food Security and Livelihoods or related disciplines(s) from a recognized institution, indepth experience of humanitarian/project management with an INGO or similar experience in an innovative and integrated food security and livelihoods project, proven practical experience and understanding of the relevant technical competencies required in food security and livelihoods related issues in Markets and value chains development contexts (animal health, Fish production/ Processing, working with producer organizations, livestock production and Marketing projects, social protection, cash transfer programming support to community initiatives /income generating activity, market strengthening etc). 
  • You will have excellent experience in coordination, influencing and negotiation skills with diverse audiences. 
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills are essential for this role.
Markets and Trade Programme Officer

Lodwar Based
Contract: 2 years Fixed Term,
National Level D1
Salary: Kes.181,473 gross per month, plus other benefits
  • Reporting to the Markets and Trade Programme Manager, you will be responsible for the operational planning and support for effective and efficient implementation of markets, value chains and trade programme according to the ASALs livelihoods strategy. 
  • He/she will be responsible for supervising and overseeing the development of the fish and livestock value chains in Turkana County. 
  • The position will offer technical and business support to traders and producers of fish and livestock products in Turkana.
  • To be successful in this role you will have proven practical experience and understanding of the relevant
  • technical competencies required in food security and livelihoods related issues in markets and value chains development contexts. 
  • You will have good operational planning and budgeting skills coupled with critical analysis and systematic problem solving skills which include; decision making/consultation with senior managers and technical advisors. 
  • You will also possess a degree in Food Security and Livelihoods or related disciplines(s) from a recognized institution coupled with in-depth experience of humanitarian/project management with an INGO or similar experience in an innovative and integrated food security and livelihoods projects. 
  • You will have good understanding of both humanitarian and development issues and the policy contexts in pastoral areas. 
  • You will also be sensitive to cultural differences and have the ability to work in a wide variety of cultural context. 
  • Excellent communication skills in English (both spoken and written) are essential for this role.
Project Officer - Training and Development

Lodwar Based
Contract: 2 years fixed term, National Level D2
Salary: Kes.128,312 gross per month, plus other benefits
  • Reporting to the Markets and Trade Programme Manager, you will be responsible for advisory and support services on Training and Development on issues of fish and livestock production, processing & handling, as part of the markets, value chains and trade programme as per project design and the ASALs livelihoods strategy. 
  • He/she will be responsible for advising, supervising and overseeing capacity building activities in the development of the fish and livestock value chains in Turkana County. 
  • The role offers training and capacity building support to traders and producers of fish and livestock products in Turkana. 
  • You will maintain working relationships with the Markets and Trade Programme Officer, fisheries Project Officer, Marketing Project Officer, Producer Organizations Project Officer and the Food Security and Livelihoods Team Leader, while working closely and in Consultation with the Markets & Livelihoods and Private Sector Advisors, based in Nairobi, alongside other local agencies and key line-Government Ministry officials.
  • To be successful in this role you will have a degree/diploma in Education or related discipline(s) from a recognised institution coupled with intense experience.
  • You will have good understanding of fisheries and livestock development issues in pastoral contexts.
  • You will also need to have a good understanding of the Turkana local context and sensitivity to cultural diversity, ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines and organise civil society on advocacy and lobbying.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills are essential for this role.
Project Officer – Producer Organizations 

Lodwar Based
Contract: 2 years fixed term,
National Level D2
Salary: Kes.128,312 gross per month, plus other benefits
  • Reporting to the Markets and Trade Programme Manager, you will be responsible for advisory and support services on the establishment of and working of Producer Organizations, as part of the markets, value chains and trade programme as per project design and the ASALs livelihoods strategy. 
  • He/she will be responsible for advising, supervising and overseeing the development of producer organizations in fish and livestock value chains in Turkana County. 
  • The position will offer technical Support to traders’ and producers’ groups of fish and livestock products in Turkana. 
  • The role maintains working relationships with the Markets and Trade Project Officer, Training and Development Project Officer, Fisheries Project Officer and the Food Security and Livelihoods Team Lead, while working closely and in consultation with the Markets & Livelihoods Advisor and the Private Sector Advisor, based in Nairobi, alongside other local agencies and key line-Government Ministry officials.
  • To be successful in this role you will have a degree in Social Sciences or a Diploma in cooperatives coupled with intense experience in the cooperatives movement or related environment. 
  • You will have good understanding of rural cooperative/commodity groups and related policy contexts in pastoral areas. You will have practical experience of project management with INGO or similar, in Government sector, with experience in Policy/Advocacy programmes. 
  • Excellent interpersonal/communication skills in written and spoken English coupled with good report writing skills are essential for this role
Project Officer – Marketing

Contract: 2 years fixed term,
National level D2

  • Reporting to the Markets and Trade Programme Manager, the post-holder is responsible for advisory and support services on marketing of fish, and livestock products, as part of the markets, value chains and trade Programme as per project design and the ASALs livelihoods strategy. 
  • The role is responsible for advising, supervising and overseeing the development of market linkage initiatives in fish and livestock value chains in Turkana County. 
  • The position will offer technical Support to traders and Producers of Fish and livestock Products in Turkana. 
  • You will maintain working relationships with Producer Organizations Project Officer, the Markets and Trade Project Officer, Training and Development Project Officer, Fisheries Project Officer and the Food Security and Livelihoods Team Lead, while working closely and in consultation with the Markets & Livelihoods Advisor and the Private Sector Advisor based in Nairobi, alongside other local agencies and key line-Government Ministry officials.
  • To be successful in this role you will have a degree in Sales/Marketing or related discipline(s) from a recognised institution coupled with intense experience of project management with INGO or government sector and experience in innovative and integrated food security and livelihoods projects. 
  • You will need to have a good understanding of rural sales/marketing and related policy contexts in pastoral areas. 
  • Excellent communication skills in English (both spoken and written) are essential for this role.
Project Officer – Fisheries

  • Reporting to the Markets and Trade Programme Manager, you will be responsible for advisory and support services on matters of fish production, processing and handling, as part of the markets, value chains and trade programme as per project design and the ASALs livelihoods strategy. 
  • You will be responsible for advising, supervising and overseeing the development of the fish value chains in Turkana County. 
  • The role offers technical support to traders and producers of Fish Products in Turkana. 
  • S/he will maintain working relationships with Marketing Project Officer, Producer Organizations Project Officer, the Markets and Trade Project Officer, Training and Development Project Officer and the Food Security and Livelihoods Team Lead, while working closely and in consultation with the Markets and Livelihoods
    Advisor and the Private Sector Advisor based in Nairobi, alongside other local agencies and key line-Government Ministry officials.
  • To be successful in this role you will have a diploma in fisheries, or related discipline(s) from a recognized institution coupled with intense experience of project management with INGO or Government sector, with experience in an innovative and integrated food security and livelihoods project. 
  • You will have good understanding of fisheries development issues and the policy contexts in pastoral areas. 
  • Excellent written and spoken English with good report writing skills are essential for this role.
Monitoring Evaluation Accountability & Learning (Meal) Officer - Wajir Based;

Salary: Kes.128, 312 gross per month, plus other benefits
Contract: D2 National - Fixed term;
12 months

  • Reporting to the Program Manager in Wajir, the MEAL Officer will establish and manage the MEAL system of OXFAM and its partners’ programmes in order to ensure programme quality and effectiveness. You will be responsible for the development of the MEAL system for key OXFAM Kenya’s programme focus areas of Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH), Food Security and Livelihoods, Policy and Advocacy and Peace Building and Conflict Management. 
  • You will establish a systematic way to jointly monitor programmes, facilitating internal and external evaluations and document learning from programmes.
    He/she will compile monthly reports, participate in various technical meetings and provide support in the preparation of reporting requirements. 
  • The post holder will be responsible for the establishing accountability system and ensure programmes are implemented in an accountable fashion. 
  • You will work with the MEAL Coordinator to operationalise the country MEAL framework ensuring the links between country level MEAL activities and regional systems. 
  • The MEAL officer will be responsible for coordinating assessments and carrying out data analysis thereby providing requisite information for setting programme benchmarks. 
  • He/she will use various data collection methods including Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) methods and produce various reports.
  • To be considered for this position, you will possess a minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in International
    Development, Public Health, Project Management, Disaster Management or Statistics from a recognized university or closely related fields. 
  • In-depth demonstrated “hands-on” working experience in MEA is essential. 
  • You must have experience in capacity building of partners in MEAL and conversant with data analysis softwares especially SPSS.
