Background
Since 2011 the University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM), specifically the Department of Chemical and Mining Engineering, the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) of Norway and the Angolan University of Agostinho Netto are collaborating under the ANTHEI project to train professionals for petroleum engineering and geosciences at Masters level. Already three batches of a total of 28 Tanzanian students have been enrolled under the program. In this program the students spend one year in Norway for class work and another year at the University of Dar es salaam and the industry for project work and thesis. While in Tanzania the students are under the responsibility of the Tanzanian project coordinator at the University of Dar es Salaam with the support of local professors, NTNU Professors and Statoil Professionals. Statoil is a Norwegian oil Company already engaged in petroleum activities in Tanzania.
Under the same scheme, another batch of 10 students will be granted scholarship next year (2015) to undertake M.Sc. in Petroleum Engineering and in Petroleum Geosciences. The scholarship covers subsistence allowance (stipend), travel grant to and fro, tuition, insurance and stationeries. The certificate will be issued by NTNU.
