Gatsby is recruiting exceptional candidates to fill Programme Director positions in London and East Africa.
In 1967 David Sainsbury set up the Gatsby Charitable Foundation. He has since given it over £1billion to invest in charitable causes. In East Africa Gatsby focuses on driving sustainable economic growth to create jobs and raise incomes.
Gatsby seeks to transform entire sectors through a holistic approach that involves addressing value chain constraints, developing supportive markets, investing in key businesses, and improving the policy environment. As a private foundation and funder-implementer we have the freedom to innovate, take risks and be both patient and pragmatic.
Gatsby is now looking to fill several positions to strengthen our senior team. Applicants must demonstrate:
- Deep understanding of market development approaches and experience of applying these in programmes targeting the growth of whole sectors;
- Strategic leadership skills and experience of leading projects to enhance competitiveness in relevant sectors;
- A record of building relationships at the most senior level across the private sector, governments and donors.
They will be equally comfortable giving detailed input to the design of programme activities as providing strategic advice to ministers. The positions comprise:
- Africa Programmes Director: Based in London or East Africa, overseeing and setting the strategy of two or more major sector programmes.
- Cotton Programme Director/Deputy Director: Based in Tanzania, leading an ongoing programme aiming to impact 400,000 farmers by establishing mechanisms to secure supply of inputs and effective agronomic support.
- Textiles Programme Director: Based in Tanzania, delivering the rapid expansion of a programme focused on securing the competitiveness and growth of Tanzania’s textile and garment industry.
- Forestry Programme Director: Based in Kenya, establishing a new programme to catalyse the development of commercial forestry in the country.
