The Bank of Tanzania, an equal opportunity employer and Tanzania’s central bank, is looking for suitably qualified young Tanzanian citizens of high personal integrity to fill the following vacant positions at the Head Office and at its Branches in Mwanza, Mbeya, Zanzibar and Dodoma.

Position:                                             Administrative  Officer  III  (Administrative  and

General Services) - 2 Posts

Reports to:                                         Head of Division

Contract type:                                    Contract for unspecified period of time

Location:                                            Head Office, Dar es Salaam

Job Purpose:

To undertake a wide range of analytical, transactional and facilitative responsibilities including travel support, general events management, BoT canteen operations and other catering services and advise the management on provision of various office support and administrative services.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

a)      Planning and scheduling booking for staff and official visitors and managing travel arrangements;

b)      Overseeing and monitoring BoT staff canteen Services;

c)      Monitoring service providers and ensuring services are provided in accordance with standards approved in the service contract;


d)     Supervising kitchen attendants on the daily delivery of services to staff and in business meetings;


e)      Originating purchase requisition and purchase orders and obtaining required approvals;



f)       Processing payments for catering services, travel tickets and hotel services rendered to the Bank;

g)      Compiling monthly utility bills for processing payments;

h)     Preparing periodic performance status reports on the performance of service providers;

i)        Preparing various correspondences for management’s decision and action;

j)        Assisting in the preparation of corporate budget relating to administrative/support services;

k)      Performing other related duties as may be assigned by supervisor.

Education/Professional Qualifications Required:

a)      Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Commerce or its equivalent;

b)      Ability to communicate effectively in English and Kiswahili;

c)      High level of integrity, motivation and hardworking;

d)     Strong interpersonal relations and ability to work effectively in teams;

e)      Results-oriented.


Position:                                                         Assistant Records Management Officer III

(Human Resource) - 2 Posts

Reports to:                                                     Head of Division

Contract type:                                                Contract for unspecified period of time

Location:                                                        Head Office, Dar es Salaam

Job Purpose:

To oversee activities relating to mail receipt and delivery systems in the mail room in order to facilitate decision making and achievement of strategic objectives of the Bank.



a)      Overseeing staff and procedures to ensure all incoming/outgoing mail, parcels and internal mail are delivered in the required time frames;

b)      Ensuring that all expedited mail are promptly delivered within set guidelines;


c)      Co-ordinating and overseeing processing of mail and parcels – receiving, sorting, opening, scanning and distributing incoming mail/parcels and processing outgoing mail/parcels;


d)     Receiving and, where appropriate, signing for all mail and parcel deliveries to the Bank, including logging all courier and special deliveries received;

f)       Ensuring items are signed for on final receipt as appropriate;

g)      Developing and implementing relevant procedures to facilitate easy receipt and delivery of mails;


h)     Contributing to the development and implementation of operational strategies associated with document and records management;


i)        Ensuring all urgent items are treated as such and managing exceptional deliveries as instructed;

j)        Performing other related duties as may be assigned by the supervisor.

Education/Professional Qualifications Required:

a)      Ordinary Diploma in Records and Archives Management from an accredited institution;


b)      Sound knowledge of records management, including the national legislations relevant to records management;

c)      Proficiency in computer applications;

d)     Self-motivated and able to prioritise and manage workloads to meet deadlines;

e)      Strong interpersonal skills;

f)       Ability to deal with sensitive issues and maintain high level of confidentiality at all times;

g)      Ability to work independently and under pressure.



Position:                                 Receptionist III – 3 Posts

Reports to:                             Head of Division

Contract type:                        Contract for unspecified period of time

Location:                                Mwanza, Mbeya and Dodoma Branches.

Job Purpose:

To act as the Branch’s first point of contact by answering telephones and directing visitors, customers and members of the public and providing relevant information as needed.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

a)      Answering telephones from within and outside the Branch;

b)      Screening, routing and connecting calls;

c)      Keeping record of all visitors who enter/visit the Branch;

d)     Responding to enquiries and obtaining information for customers, visitors and members of the public;


e)      Providing information about the Bank as may be required including location of departments, offices and employees at the Branch and in the Bank;


f)       Taking messages and informing other employees of visitors’ arrivals or cancellations of appointments;

g)      Performing other related duties as may be assigned by the head of division.

Education/Professional Qualifications and Experience Required:

a)      Diploma in Business Administration or its equivalent from an accredited institution and relevant work - related training;


b)      Ability to communicate clearly in English and Kiswahili and any other major foreign languages;

c)      Self-motivated and ability to work under pressure;


d)     Strong interpersonal skills;

e)      Good customer service;

f)       Basic computer skills;

g)      At least two years of work experience as Receptionist.



Position:                                             Porter cum Messenger III (Currency) – 1 Post

Reports to:                                         Head of Division

Contract type:                                    Contract for unspecified period of time

Location:                                            Head Office, Dar es Salaam


Job Purpose:

To assist Main Vault Custodians in loading, unloading into and from trucks and carrying out currency deliveries within the Bank’s premises.


Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

a)      Packing, loading and unloading currency consignments into/from trucks at the

Bank’s Main Vault;

b)      Carrying and stacking currency cargo and other goods in the Bank’s Main Vault;

c)      Carrying currency to and from the Note Counting and Processing Units;

d)     Carrying and delivering messages, documents and other items within and outside the Bank premises;

e)      Stamping the labels attached to banknotes bundles and coin bags as required;

f)       Performing other related duties as may be assigned by the head of division.

Education Qualifications and Job-Related Attributes Required:

a)      Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (CSEE) with passes in Mathematics and English subjects;

a)      Ability to demonstrate initiative, enthusiasm and personal integrity;


b)      Physically capable of carrying heavy loads;

c)      Ability to work beyond normal working hours and under pressure;

d)     Ability to work as part of a team;

e)      Ability to demonstrate respect, confidentiality and trustworthy;



Position:                                             Control Room Operator III (Internal Security) – 2

Job purpose:

To monitor the electronic security systems on the Bank’s premises

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

b)      Monitoring security surveillance equipment, alarm handling, operating communication equipment and other critical equipment;


c)      Operating a multi-media recording system with a view to insuring that criminal incidents and other transgressions are detected and reported;


d)     Observing, recording, and reporting suspicious behavior or incidents for review and investigation;


e)      Supporting security and investigation operations in analyzing data, providing logistical support, preparing reports and facilitating vehicle tracking;


f)       Coordinating disaster prevention, participating in emergency handling including evacuation and recovery strategies;


g)      Evacuating situations using independent thought with a view to establishing level of urgency and prioritizing;


h)     Writing accurate and concise reports and notification of events and situations for the attention of Head of division;


i)        Taking action according to the alarms shown in the security Electronic systems;

j)        Providing and controlling access within the premises;

k)      Liaising with Human Resource staff to process staff identity/access cards;

l)        Maintaining switchboard operations during non-official and after office hours;

m)   Performing other related duties as may be assigned by the head of division.


Education Qualifications and Job-Related Attributes Required:

a)      Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (ACSEE);

b)      National Service Training Certificate;

c)       Ability to handle confidential information;

d)      Ability to concentrate and focus;

e)       Basic computer skills;

f)        Ability to work as part of a team;

g)      Ability to work independently and under minimum supervision;

h)      Excellent written and oral communication skills.


Position:                                             Transport Officer III (Administrative and General

Services) – 1 Post

Reports to:                                         Head of Division.

Contract Type                                   Contract for an Unspecified Period of Time

Location:                                            Head Office, Dar es Salaam.


Job Purpose:

To provide transport services to Bank of Tanzania staff and official guests so as to facilitate Bank’s operations.


Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

a)         Providing/facilitating transport for Bank of Tanzania employees and guests;


b)         Preparing annual requirement specifications for motor vehicles and motor cycles in accordance with the Bank’s transport policy and procurement plan;

c)          Preparing purchase orders for motor vehicles, motorcycles, tyres, lubricants and other parts;

d)         Updating Bank’s motor vehicle records and preparing fleet performance report for management decision;

e)          Identifying and consolidating list of motor vehicles and motor cycles that qualify for disposal in compliance with the Bank’s Financial Regulations;

f)           Coordinating provision of fuel and lubricants for Bank of Tanzania Motor Vehicles;

g)         Arranging for and supervising maintenance of motor vehicles;

h)         Preparing requisitions for purchase of tyres and lubricants;

i)           Preparing monthly reports on motor vehicle and motor cycles maintenance;

j)        Inspecting log books and controlling fuel consumption and movement of motor vehicles and motor cycles and fuel consumption;

k)      Safe keeping of motor vehicles’ key and registration cards;

l)        Performing other related duties as assigned by Head of Division.

Education/ Professional Qualifications and Experience Required:

a)            Bachelor’s Degree in Transport or Logistics Management or its equivalent;


b)            Knowledge of and experience in coordinating transport and maintenance of motor vehicles and motor cycles;

c)             Analytical and problem solving skills;

d)            Ability to work independently and under pressure;

e)             Excellent report writing and presentation skills;


f)              Ability to lead people;

g)            Ability to work as part of a team;

h)            Computer literate;

i)              A minimum of three (3) years of relevant post-qualification experience in a busy environment.



Position:                                                         Telephone Operator III - 1 Post

Reports to:                                                     Head of Division.

Contract Type                                               Contract for an Unspecified Period of Time

Location:                                                        Zanzibar Branch.


Job Purpose:

To provide telephone services to staff, record incoming and outgoing calls, and exchanging telephone lines and extensions to support Branch’s operations.


Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

a)            Observing signal lights on switchboards and dialing or pressing buttons to make connections;


b)            Providing local, international and emergency telephone services to staff in accordance with the regulations;

c)             Monitoring switchboard operations and attending calls promptly;

d)            Listening to customers and responding to queries relating to telephone information and operations;

e)             Updating directory information and distributing to all staff on regular basis;

f)              Offering assistance in dialing to persons who are in emergency situations;

g)            Keeping of records of calls placed and received and related toll charges;

h)            Reporting faulty telephone exchange lines and leasing with relevant authorities for repair and/ or replacement;



i)              Performing other related duties as assigned by supervisor.


Education Qualifications and Job - Related Attributes Required:

a)            Certificate of Secondary School Education with passes in English and Kiswahili;

b)            Certificate in customer service skills;

c)             Ability to work under minimum supervision.

Position:                                Messenger III (Dodoma Branch) 1 Post

Reports to:                            Head of Division

Terms of Contract:              Contract for an Unspecified Period of Time

Location:                               Dodoma Branch

Job Purpose:

To provide office support services including running errands within and outside the office, photocopying, binding, moving documents /files/office supplies and providing related services.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:


a)      Moving documents and office supplies from one location to another within the Bank;

b)     Collecting letters and parcels from postal office and other courier agencies and delivering them to intended recipients within the Bank;

c)      Delivering letters and parcels to the postal office and other courier agencies for postage and delivering them to the intended addresses;

d)     Receiving newspapers and magazines and distributing them to the relevant offices and staff in the Bank;

e)      Assisting in basic records keeping, photocopying and binding of documents;

f)       Performing other related duties as may be assigned by Supervisor;


Education/Professional Qualifications Required:

a)      Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (CSEE) with passes in Kiswahili and English;

b)     Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education Examination is an added advantage;

c)      Ability to handle confidential information;

d)     Good customer service skills;

e)      Good team player;

f)       Ability to work under minimum supervision.
