Job Description/Responsibilities: |
BRAC International is seeking a Research Coordinator to oversee and lead the portfolio of research projects in Uganda, Tanzania, South Sudan, Sierra Leone and Liberia. The Research and Evaluation Unit works with development and academic partners to evaluate approaches to solving development problems, to communicate what works and does not work in development, and to scale up successful projects. The Research Coordinator will manage a portfolio of approximately 25 projects. These projects could span a range of areas, such as microfinance, agriculture, education, youth and health. As part of its supervisory role, the Research Coordinator will be based in Kampala and work closely with the regional and local offices to ensure research projects are working within the relevant policies and procedures. Ensure project adherence in the field to general research design, sample selection, data management and analysis, and overall project management. Oversee project financial management Work with relevant departments to ensure sound human resource development and operational management of projects. Directly supervise and mentoring project researchers (Research Associates, Research Assistants, Field Supervisors), and help with continuation and on-boarding of new research staff. Promote inter-project best practices and take a lead in sharing best practices with projects through periodical meetings and training opportunities. Attend meetings with development organizations, universities, and government officials. Support the dissemination of results via presentations and reports to academic and non-academic audiences. Maintain effective communication among BRAC International, Country Representative and Programme Managers for all developments on the research projects in Uganda. |
Educational Requirements: |
Postgraduate degree, preferably PhD, in Economics, Agricultural Economics, Development Economics, Sociology, Anthropology, Rural Development, or any other related field. |
Experience Requirements: |
At least ten (10) years of experience in conducting social science or economic field research. Experience in Africa is strongly preferred. Extensive experience supervising data collection, teams of field workers, and survey design and implementation. Experience in conducting field research in developing countries. Experience with presenting research findings at public forums, including to non-research focused audiences. Excellent analytical and demonstrated ability to write reports and publish findings in peer-reviewed journals. Experience on combine quantitative and participatory research methods. Experience with data management, statistics, and advanced knowledge of Stata or any other statistical packages. |
Additional Job Requirements: |
Cultural sensitivity and demonstrated ability to work successfully with diverse constituencies. Strong budgeting and financial management skills. Strong written and oral communication skills and complete fluency in English. Strong quantitative skills and familiarity with randomized controlled trials. Ability to identify relevant partners, maintain existing relations, and build new linkages and effectively facilitate stakeholder processes on poverty issues. |
