The United Republic of Tanzania is the beneficiary of the Response Strategy by the European Union (EU) through Accompanying measures for Sugar Protocol countries (AMSP) 2011-13 Tanzania. The support builds on the achievements of the AMSP Multi-Annual Indicative Programme (MIP) 2007-2010. It has been designed in line with the MIP 2011-2013 and it takes stock of the new Sugar Industry Development Plan and Strategy (SIDPS) 2011-2015.
The Sugar Board of Tanzania therefore creates the Coordination Unit that will coordinate all project activities in collaboration with cane growers associations. The unit will be headed by the Project Coordinator, assisted by Assistant Project Coordinator and two employed staff at the Headquarter (SBT&STRIT) and four Local Area Officers based at the respective cane growing areas. The Project comprise of an Infrastructure component handled through SBT/NAO/EU, a Grant for Outgrower capacity building charged to SBT, and a Grant to start-up the Sugar Training and Research Institute of Tanzania (STRIT) charged to STRIT/SBT. The global allocation for all three amounts to Euro 6.573m spread over 36 months.
Applications are therefore invited from suitably qualified Tanzanians to fill the following posts:
Duties and Responsibilities
To assist Project Coordinator, paying emphasis on procurement
To ensure project implementation is in line with approved programs, and in line with the European Union procedures (at all stages of implementation rules and procedures for EU donor fund is adhered to and observed)
To ensure smooth implementation of the funded projects that are being implemented through the unit
To liaise with necessary organisations and institutions to allow for smooth project implementation .e.g. National Authorizing Office, Ministries, Sugar Millers cum Planters and other relevant organization. To advise designated officers of SBT and STRIT on compliance matters in relation to Grants utilization. To prepare project reports
Qualification:
University Degree in Agriculture, Economics, Engineering, Business Administration or equivalent
Complete familiarity with EU donor fund rules and procurement procedures
At least 3 years' experience in project management of similar nature
Duty Station
Dar es Salaam, with frequent visits to the project areas
