The International Cotton Advisory Committee(ICAC) welcomes applications for the position of statistician for itsSecretariat. The mission of the ICAC is to assistgovernments in fostering a healthy world cotton economy, and the statisticiancontributes to the achievement of that mission by providing transparency to theworld cotton market.
The statistician develops estimates of worldcotton supply and use; keeps abreast of developments in the cotton industry andrelated sectors; prepares frequent reports and presentations analyzing cottonmarket trends; and answers requests from member countries and the generalpublic.
This position is based in Washington, DC,but involves domestic and international travel. The working language of theSecretariat is English. A competitive salary will be offered, commensurate withknowledge, training, and experience.Benefitsinclude retirement contributions, andhealth, life and disability insurance.Moving expenses are partiallycovered.
Essential Duties:
Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Maintaining the main database of the ICAC via research, collection and cleaning of data on production, consumption, trade and stocks of raw cotton by country.
- Maintaining numerous datasets on cotton supply and use, and prices, by country and for the world.
- Analysis, compilation, presentation and dissemination of statistical data.
- Preparation of weekly, monthly, bi-monthly and annual reports on world cotton supply and use.
- Written and oral presentations to the Standing Committee in Washington, to each Plenary Meeting and to world cotton industry organizations as requested.
Desired Skills & Experience
Required Qualifications:
- Advanced degree in Agricultural Economics, Economics, Statistics or related field.
- Strong quantitative and analytical skills.
- Solid computer skills, including proficiency in Excel and the ability to work with large datasets using software such as Access or SQLSVR.
- Fluency in oral and written English. Duties include frequent phone calls and emailing in English.
- Excellent writing and presentation skills.
- Attention to detail and record keeping abilities.
- Investigative mind.
- Ability to work independently and effectively with colleagues from diverse cultures.
- Good interpersonal skills.
- Citizenship from an ICAC member country
Additional Desirable Qualifications:
- Several years of work experience.
- Fluency in French.
- Knowledge of the cotton industry.
